UNAIR NEWS Studying the life of people in the past and present through social and life studies are the tasks of anthropologists. Anthropologists can perform in any career choices related to human and cultures.
For example, the disaster happened to Air Asia in 2014, or the sinking boats of illegal immigrants in 2011 in Trenggalek, they need physical anthropologists to handle victims identification.
Beside physical field, anthropologists also study the social condition of the people such as study on woman boarding school, the anthropologists study the cultural background of the school establishment.
It is a small contribution of 51动漫 anthropologists stated by the program coordinator of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Drs. Yusuf Ernawan, M.Hum. 淯NAIR produces excellent and integrated anthropologists, said Yusuf.
As time goes by, UNAIR Anthropology program improves. Yusuf elaborated that at the moment, UNAIR Anthropology has two study concentrations, Socio-Cultural Anthropology and Physical Anthropology. In Physical Anthropology, one thing studied is Forensic Anthropology.
淚n other places, Forensic Anthropology is not even developed, he said.
But, at the moment, Forensic Anthropology stands out due to a lot of accidents and crimes. 淪o if there is a plane crash or sinking ship, we collaborate with the police force. Our institution often heard in the public, said Yusuf.
Besides, Anthropology also develops from its own scope. Yusuf explained that anthropological study is not only about accidents, fossils and temples. 淲e can talk about anything, arts, religions, sexuality, education, social changes even tourism is in our scope of study. We have the courses so it is very wide, he said.
In the curriculum, anthropology is equipped with various facilities to support the students activities such as anthropology museum, the work of UNAIR in collaboration with General Directorate of Culture. Furthermore, the students also hold field practices so they can contribute directly in the society.
淚deally, they must often go to the field as anthropology is to understand society, said Yusuf. 淎ctually they don檛 only know and describe, but also understand the people they studied, after they understand it, they can be the mediator to explain the understanding to other parties or wider society, he added.
In the future, Yusuf hoped that UNAIR Anthropology can improve and produce excellent anthropologists. Yusuf even admitted receiving support from students to establish Anthropology master program.
淭here are a lot of students who push us to establish master program. We are going to plan and discuss it, he said optimistically. (*)
