Lecturers Encouraged to Actively Write in Mass Media

UNAIR NEWS– The ideas and opinions expressed in mass media can have such a wide impact on life.Therefore, encourages lecturers to be more active in writing in mass media.The effort was realized by holding the workshop of opinion writing in Kahuripan 301 Hall Campus C on Wednesday, December 6.

Vice Rector I UNAIR Prof.Djoko Santoso, dr., Ph.D., Sp.PD., K-GH., FINASIM was present in the occasion.In his speech, Prof.Djoko stated that the workshop was an effort to encourage lecturers to take part in filling the columns in mass media.

“The point is, there should be more lecturers who write in mass media,” he said.

As the first speaker, Sri Hartati Samhadi as opinion editorof Harian Kompas opened the workshop by introducing some characteristics of opinion in the media where she works.In addition, according to Sri, UNAIR is one of the most frequent campuses to submit opinions toHarian Kompas from Surabaya.

“But, those people who keep sending opinions to us are the same people.Therefore, after this activity, I hope there will be more and more people write opinions, ” she said.

Furthermore, Sri gave some tips for writing opinions so they can be received by the editorial. One of them is the opinions should be about the latest national issue.

“Because we’re national newspapers.So, the issues should be those that of concern of national interest.Local issues are okay as long as it contains things with national scope, ” she said.

More important than that, added Sri, the author should not only send their writing to the editor once or twice, but they must send it repeatedly.They will be very likely to be accepted by the editor.In addition, the more often the authors send it to the editor, it will hone their skills indirectly.

“Write more as practices, that’s the point,” said Sri.

The next speaker was Ibrahim Ali Fauzi.The Executive Editor of GEOTIMES in his presentation invited the participants to see the other viewpoints in writing about national issues.For him, writing is not just to be read by many people.

“Regarding contemporary issues, the emphasized essence is not to attract readers only.More than that, to expand the knowledge of wider audience, “he said.(*)
