UNAIR NEWS Adapting real world phenomena into various symbols and numeric formula to be solved is a task for mathematicians. This is a goal that lecturers at Mathematics Bachelor Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, 51动漫 have been trying to achieve.
One of the lecturers at Mathematics Bachelor Program Dra. Yayuk Wahyuni, M.Si when being met in her office presented about mathematical modeling principle. Mathematical modeling is one stage of mathematical problem solving. In modeling, phenomena are simplified into a mathematical form. The result is equation, inequality, et cetera.
淢athematical modeling principle refers to problem solving. It is expected that modeling can help students to be more aware of reality which is often ignored. This hope then becomes the focus of curriculum at Mathematics study here, Yayuk explained.
Since the first semester, Mathematics students have been sent to the field. They identify the problem then develop the necessary model, solving method, and solution. This habit will form logical and systematic mindset of the students.
淭hey will be used to solve problems systematically and think logically. Mathematics graduates will adapt faster with social phenomena within the framework of mathematics discipline, Yayuk continued.
The Coordinator of Mathematics Bachelor Dr. H. M. Imam Utoyo, M.Si., stated that learning Mathematics actually is not that difficult. However, the problem is people assume learning Mathematics is hard; and that makes them avoid Mathematics.
In order to put Mathematics back into people檚 heart, the Mathematics Department lecturers of FST a community service. They educate teachers about interesting ways to teach Mathematics so that students will easily understand.
淔or example on the material about set; there are two sets namely a man and a woman. Determining the relation between both will produce answer. The answer that comes out must be questioned logically and in real terms to present a clear description, Imam explained. (*)
