UNAIR NEWS –The lack of utilization of overseas plant disease detection equipment, has encouraged domestic researchers to look for alternative tools that are more suitable for use in Indonesia.
Nurmalasari, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) doctoral student of , conducted a research titled “Development of Immunodiagnosis Method of Sugarcane Mosaic Disease Using Antibodies For Sugarcane Mosaic Virus Protein Recombinant“.She finally graduated as the best graduates with 3.91 GPA.
According to Nurmalasari, the research she did was to obtain specific polyclonal antibodies.This is a rapid test of mosaic sugarcane disease detection forSugarcane Mosaic Virus(SCMV) from five districts in East Java, Magetan, Madiun, Lumajang, Jember, and Bondowoso.
” I conducted this study for three years, with a sample of sugarcane leaves that show the visual symptoms of mosaic disease from five districts to obtain sourcefor SCMV protein capsid genes,” she explained.
With her responsibilities as a crop breeding staff, this woman from Surabaya hoped to complete her doctoral study in time.
“Actually in PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI there is no demand to continue study again.But with college, the work quality will be better and much more advanced.Education is very useful, so do not consider studying only just for promotion, ” said Nurmalasari.
Besides being a housewife and lecturer at a university in Surabaya and Universitas Negeri Jember, her motivation to study was always there.She has a principle that to achieve all achievements starts with discipline of time.
“In my study I did not want to bother people around me, family, colleagues and others.In the past, I just wanted to graduate in time, so I never thought of being the best graduates, “Nurmalasari said.Nevertheless, she felt grateful for it.(*)
