UNAIR NEWS The Faculty of Public Health (FKM) 51 cooperated with the Indonesia Food and Nutrients Experts Association (Pergizi Pangan) and East Java Pergizi Pangan successfully held National Breakfast Week (PESAN) 2017. The event which was held outdoors of UNAIR Rectorate at was crowded by about 800 people.
Present in the event were the Chairman of Indonesia Pergizi Pangan Prof. dr. Hardinsyah, MS; the Section Head of Nutrients Adequacy, Sub Directorate of Nutrients Adequacy & Quality Improvement, Ministry of Health Ir. Mursalim, MPH.; Head of Surabaya Public Health Office Drg. Febria Rachmanita, MA.; Head of Surabaya Education Office Dr. Ikhsan, S.Psi, MM.; Dean of FKM UNAIR Prof. Dr. Tri Martiana, dr., MS.; Independent Director of PT Nippon Indosari Corpindo, Tbk. Chin Yuen Loke; Head of East Java Pergizi Pangan Dr. Ir. Annis Catur Adi, M.Sc.; and hundreds of student representatives from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools in Surabaya.
Dr. Ir. Annis Catur Adi, M.Sc., a lecturer of FKM UNAIR and the Committee Chairman, reports that this PESAN 2017 event is the fifth since this national program was launched in 2013 by the Coordinating Minister of Peoples Welfare Agung Laksono at the time. The aim of this program is to cope with problems of peoples nutrition, particularly children at their grow-and-develop age. Therefore the theme of this years celebration is Healthy Breakfast and Safe Snacks for a Healthy Outstanding Generation
According to him, breakfast plays an important role in improving ones health, intelligence, toughness, and productivity. Because of its urgent importance, a seminar was also held in this Fifth PESAN celebration.

The seminar, held at Kahuripan Hall Campus C UNAIR, was attended by 350 participants, and almost all of them were women. Among others were teachers (of Playgroups, Kindergartens, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High Schools), Development of Family Welfare (PKK) activists, Integrated Service Station (Posyandu) cadres of sub-district level, public figures, and organizations related to PESAN program. In the seminar entitled Good for the Lips, Healthy and Slim on the Hips; the Importance of Healthy Breakfast for Children at School Age, two nutritionists were present as keynote speakers, namely Prof. dr. Hardinsyah, MS., the Chairman of Indonesia Pergizi Pangan, and anNutritionist Dr. Sri Adiningsih, dr., MS. MCN.
According to Prof. Hardinsyah, healthy breakfast is an activity of eating and drinking something safe and nutritious in the morning before going to school or work. A nutritious breakfast is a breakfast which fulfills one fourth (15-30%) of daily nutritional needs. Furthermore, breakfast is part of balanced nutrition dimension in order to realize a healthy, active, and smart life.
In addition, the Section Head of Nutrients Adequacy Sub Directorate of Nutrients Adequacy & Quality Improvement Ministry of Health Ir. Mursalim, MPH affirmed that the intensive holding of the event which was also held in 11 cities in Indonesia is expected to speed the percentage of balanced healthy nutrients adequacy fulfilling for the people particularly children. Therefore this event also functions as a reminder of the importance of having healthy breakfast before 9.00 in the morning.
Because this is a good program, so when it was launched in 2013 the Ministry of Health gave their straight support. Our expectation is to make healthy breakfast cultural, because nutrients adequacy of Indonesian people can maintain the development of human resources intelligence, competence, and excellence, Mursalim said.
In the past PESAN celebration, children who came along had brought some food from home or home cooking. However, the committee also provided a parcel supported by a bread company and a dairy. As soon as Prof. Hardinsyah gave a sign to start having breakfast, the children opened their parcel. Also offered in the events seminar, a certificate signed by Prof. dr. Hardinsyah, MS., as the Chairman of Indonesia Pergizi Pangan. (*)
