UNAIR NEWS – General Director of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Prof.Intan Ahmad, Ph.D., officially opened the 30th National Student Science Week (PIMNAS) 2017, at Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Wednesday, August 23.
Theevent held outdoor was full of festivities, marked by the last champion Universitas Brawijaya represented by its Rector Prof.Dr.Ir.Moh Bisri, MS, returning “Adikarta Kertawidya” trophy to General Director Belmawa and then it was directly given to Rector of UMI Prof.Dr.Hj.Masruroh Mochtar, MA to be contested in this 30th PIMNAS.
Attending this opening ceremony were the Governor of South Sulawesi,Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Pangdam XIV Hasanuddin Major General TNI Agus Surya Bakti, South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Pol Muktiono, Mayor of Makassar Ir.H. Moh Ramdhan Pomanto, Rectors and representative of participating universities in PIMNAS such as Prof.Djoko Santoso, Vice Rector I UNAIR and Director of Student Affairs UNAIR Dr.M. Hadi Shubhan.
“Have a great competition, and show your best innovation for the progress of the nation,” said Prof.Intan Ahmad in front of 1851 students in PIMNAS, 200 officials and student companion from 89 public and private universities in Indonesia.
In this 30th PIMNAS there are 420 titles of innovative works from Student Creativity Program (PKM) which will be presented.A total of 420 such titles consist of seven areas of PKM, the research field of exacta sciences (PKMPE), community service (PKMM), social and humanities (PKM Soshum), Entrepreneurship (PKMK), the application of technology (PKMT), invention (PKMKC), and the written idea (PKMGT).UNAIR will present its 11 PKM titles.

In his speech, General Director of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) Prof.Intan Ahmad said that PIMNAS is an arena of young generation to answer the challenges of the future on prosperity of the nation and state.He related the PKM innovation activities in PIMNAS as a process of creating innovations that can lead to economic progress.
“One way to achieve it is by making the young generation ‘in love’ with science and scientific things, including through this PIMNAS.It was already proven .In the 1950s, South Korea with Indonesia was not so different, but after South Korea advanced more in various innovations, we can see the difference now, ” said Prof.Intan Ahmad.
It is said that the younger generation is the foundation of welfare progress in filling and interpreting the independence for the progress of nation and state.Citing researchof McKinsey Global Institute,Indonesia has the potential to become a country with a high level of wealth ranked 7th or 8th in the world. With 250 million population and economic growth of 5% per year, by 2045 there will be 113 million people at productive age.
“Therefore the development of the young generation as an educated and innovative human capital must be prepared early on.So it should be utilized, not the opposite and become a burden to progress, “said Prof.Diamond.
The same thing was conveyed by South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasim Limpo, he agreed PIMNAS as an arena to make the young generation committed, especially students, for the future of the nation.To him, the younger generation who will continue the leadership of this country will be able to answer the challenges of future progress.
“Young people can no longer be taught in the same way as I used to be, so it has to be done in many ways through good and quality education to answer the national challenges.PIMNAS is one of those innovation competition arena, “said the Governor of South Sulawesi.(*)
