[Podcast] Pecel Airlangga, Pecel with Different Nuance

UNAIR RADIO“ Pecel (traditional Javanese dish served with rice and vegetables with peanut sauce) is often seen in the morning. It is served in a traditional dish made of leaves or paper instead of using plates.

Dimas Farid, an Accounting student of 51¶¯Âþ has been able to serve pecel with different nuance. He wants to serve pecel in a five-star quality but with street vendor price. He started a culinary business called Pecel Airlangga.

Pecel Airlangga restaurant was established in December 2015. It is located in Jln. Srikana Timur. It serves pecel as the main menu in an air-conditioned room with free-Wi-Fi, a different atmosphere of eating pecel.

Eventhough its name is Pecel Airlangga, it also serves various dishes such as rawon, sayur asem, fried rice, fried chicken, jus buto and other dishes and drink. The price ranges from Rp 7,000 to Rp 25,000 which is still affordable for students.

Islamic Culinary Business

He started this business because he loves culinary arts. He had intended to start a culinary business. In early 2012, he had a Rice Box business with a friend but it did not run well. It did not stop him from trying and started a new business.

As a part of IIBF (Indonesian Islamic Bussiness Forum) community, he met a friend who helped him started this business. His friend made an investment in Pecel Airlangga. Dimas hold Islamic economy principle strongly. It does not encourage interests in trading.

To start his business, he relied on investor and did not borrow fund from any institutions which have interest. He believed his business will be blessed by implementing Islamic economy. He feels content as he does not only earn money but also got inner satisfaction. He believed that his business is a way to get God™s blessings. (*)
