(11/5/2023) | SMHI, or Law Student Solidarity for Indonesia at the Faculty of Law, 51动漫, is a semi-autonomous body (BSO) whose main function is advocacy. SMHI has carried out many community-oriented work programs. One of the tentative work programs it has is the “People’s Party.” This activity was composed by the new SMHI generation after being absent due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This activity consisted of other sub-activities: poetry, musical performances, and the People’s Reading Garden.
This People’s Party was held on Sunday (30/4/2023) at Taman Bungkul Surabaya with I Dewa Gede Mayuresa Iswara (Dode), a 2022 Batch of Airlangga University Faculty of Law student as the person in charge. In his interview, Dode said that “We are holding a People’s Reading Park as an implementation of the mandate of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, namely “to educate the nation’s life,” besides that, we also want to revive understanding about the people as the holders of sovereignty over this nation. They have the right to access science and knowledge openly to realize Indonesia as an independent, united, sovereign, just and prosperous country,”
From this, it is pretty clear that the spirit of SMHI in making the People’s Party is in harmony with its organizational goals. The agenda of the event as a whole does not only consist of providing coloring books, life motivation, and happiness to world politics, philosophy, and ideology but also providing performances of musical poetry and national songs to remind the audience at Bungkul Park about the struggles of the heroes and our obligations as the next generation of the nation. Dode also explained, “Students today’s awareness of their duties and responsibilities as agents of change must be voiced again. We can’t just live on paper without knowing and caring about the condition of the outside community,”
This activity carried out by SMHI is also an implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service. Through the People’s Reading Garden, SMHI hopes that student awareness will increase to welcome Indonesia Gold. However, SMHI’s friends are fully aware that this activity, which has been resurrected from its sleep, still has many things to improve, including techniques to attract attention so that pedestrians are interested in their activities. This evaluation is also carried out for the sake of the sustainability of this activity and the benefits it can provide to the Indonesian people.
