(25/5/2023) | Becoming an IISMA awardee is the dream of most Faculty of Law, Airlangga University students because of its prestige points which can lead many students to achieve objectives according to their respective abilities. This led Iqbal Fauzurrahman, a student at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University class of 2020, to register himself at IISMA 2023. He succeeded in becoming an IISMA awardee at the University of Western Australia, which is the best research-intensive university in Australia. He passed with an IELTS score of 8.
Iqbal is a student majoring in International Law, so studying abroad is one of the means that, according to him, can help catalyze his dream. He also has the urgency to use his abilities to help Indonesia develop. Develop within the existing knowledge gaps in legal jurisdictions to create a practical approach to forming the Indonesian state itself. Iqbal feels collaboration and knowledge development are crucial to do this. He must gain insight into the diplomatic and consular world by studying abroad.
Apart from his strong will, Iqbal’s acceptance as an awardee was not without struggle. He said that it was vital to compose an essay in the correct order by including all the elements needed. In his essay, Iqbal wrote down his achievements, plans when he was accepted, the challenges he has faced so far and how to overcome them, his physical and mental condition, and his active campus activities. Apart from essays, Iqbal also admitted that the English proficiency test was a determinant in the awardee selection.
In addition to self-preparation, strategy is the second most important thing. Strategies such as university specialization, world ranking, subjects, competency standards, destination countries, number of competitors, and the personal goals of each awardee candidate are fundamental so that shots can be on target. However, whichever host university you will get at the announcement does not determine how big or small our chances are because Iqbal feels each host university has its objective in selecting awardees.
Being accepted as an IISMA awardee is difficult, but implementing the program is no less complicated. With a monitoring and evaluation system, awardees are “forced” to be disciplined and gain as much knowledge as possible. According to Iqbal, this is an excellent thing from the IISMA program.
In closing, Iqbal gave messages and impressions to fellow students interested in participating in IISMA. “My message to friends who want to apply for the IISMA Scholarship is to prepare well and start now so you don’t waste time. Do your best as much as possible because rest assured that everything will be meaningful in the future, “
