On 20-21 March 2023, an International Workshop on Refugee Research and Lectures in Indonesia was held to improve the quality of learning and research on refugees. The workshop was held at Mercure Hotel, West Jakarta.
On that occasion, representatives of the Faculty of Law, 51动漫 (FH UNAIR), A. Indah Camelia, S.H., M.H., as a lecturer in international law, FH UNAIR, presented the syllabus for studying refugee law, FH UNAIR. The first day’s agenda was a series of presentations on refugee research. On the second day, was discussing the syllabus for learning refugee law and immigration law at universities in Indonesia.
The Refugee Law course at FH UNAIR is a subject of interest for international law majors. This course is equivalent to 2 credits, and the prerequisites for taking this course are passing studies in international law and humanitarian law. The material provided is the definition of refugees in international law, history, sources, and refugee status, including differences between refugees and internally displaced persons, determination of refugee status, and solutions for resolving refugee problems. Apart from that, this course also discusses the protection of refugees, international security, and the protection of refugees and internally displaced persons in armed conflicts. At the end of the meeting, the implementation of refugee law by the perpetrators and case studies will be discussed.
“After taking the Refugee Law course, students are expected to be able to explain what is meant by refugees, a brief history of the formation of refugee law, rights and obligations, protection, settlement of refugee problems, and international cooperation in dealing with refugee problems internationally and the implementation of handling refugees in Indonesia. ,” said the Airlangga Institute for International Law Studies (AIILS) representative.
“The learning method uses modules and is carried out for 14 lecture meetings. In addition to modules, we also use conventional lectures, problem-based learning, case-based learning, presentations, assignments, and exams, which are supported by learning facilities in the form of campus e-learning, PowerPoint, films, videos, or visiting lectures from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,” said Indah.
