The Doctoral Program in Social Sciences at FISIP UNAIR is organizing three Academic Development Activities (UDT) throughout OctoberÌý

SURABAYA “ HUMAS | The Open Doctoral Examination (UDT) of the Doctoral Program in Social Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) took place in October 2022. There were three UDT sessions organized by the program, led by Dr. Phil. Toetik Koesbardiati, Dra. They were held on October 24, 26, and 27, all taking place in the Adi Sukadana room on the second floor of FISIP UNAIR. 

In this UDT, three candidates successfully passed their examinations. Firstly, Dr. Merlia Indah Prastiwi, S.Sos., M.Sosio., underwent the UDT on Monday (October 24). Dr. Merlia was declared the 281st Doctor of Social Sciences, completing her studies in three years and two months. She obtained the degree with distinction, receiving the predicate of “with honors.” The title of her study was “Cyberbullying among Adolescents with Disabilities: Victim’s Adaptation Mechanism in Liquid Modernity.”Ìý

The dissertation found four proportions. Three of them are as follows: Firstly, the possession of economic resources and social status is not an indicator of the absence of cyberbullying. Secondly, gender does not influence the intensity of cyberbullying victims’ experiences on social media. Thirdly, adaptation mechanisms are employed by victims of cyberbullying, particularly those from minority groups, further highlighting the existence of liquid modernity.Ìý

Next, there is Dr. Sri Endah Kinasih, S.Sos., M.Si, who successfully obtained her doctoral degree in Social Sciences on Wednesday, October 24. She completed her studies in three years and eight months. Dr. Sri Endah graduated with the predicate of “with honors.” The dissertation’s research title was “Being a Risk Society: Production of Infectious Diseases among Indonesian Migrant Workers in Post-Duty Era of Reflexive Modernity.” 

“The findings of this study reveal that in the era of reflexive modernity, the motivation to become Indonesian Migrant Workers is a process of individualization designed rationally to shape one’s identity or self-reference in designing their biography,” she explained. 

The third doctoral candidate in Social Sciences who successfully graduated in October, specifically on Thursday (October 27), is Dr. Ario Bimo Utomo, S.I.P., MIR. Having pursued his master’s degree in Australia, he completed his studies in three years and eight months. Dr. Bimo graduated with the predicate of “with honors.” 

“Globalization and Sister City Paradiplomacy Activities of Surabaya City Government during the Tri Rismaharini Administration (2010-2020): A Theoretical Review of State Transformation” is the title of Dr. Bimo’s dissertation. In his dissertation, Dr. Bimo identified two patterns in the concept of globalization and para diplomacy in Surabaya City: institutionalization from authority and institutionalization issue function (fry, PDA). Ìý
