UNAIR NEWS One of UNAIR檚 plastic surgeons who is competent and his views often published in mass media is Prof. Dr. David Sontani Perdanakusuma, dr., Sp.BP-RE(K). Besides teaching, the author of at least eight books also conducts research and community services. From 2006 to 2014, he has made contributions in 10 regional or national community services.
A face-off patient handled by David and his team is Siti Nur Jazilah alias Lisa. The woman was a victim of her own husband. The Chief of Indonesian Medical Collegium Council was often involved in conjoined twin separation surgery team.
The doctor with four children has shown excellent craftsmanship with a scalpel and he has made a lot of achievements for it (see the table), either from the association, local or even central government. The professor who has attended training and workshops in Singapore, Belgium, Australia, The USA and Canada also often speaks in seminars, conferences and other scientific events, at national or international level.
He is often invited to be a doctoral thesis examiner (S-3) in Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Udayana, Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Padjadjaran, and Universitas Gajah Mada from 2012 to 2015. He holds some patents and copyrights.

David said that the application of plastic surgery was started from an effort to reconstruct body parts of human, for example due to traffic accidents or birth defects like cleft palate or ear deformities.
淧lastic surgery does not overturn God檚 will. It only reconstructs the structure as the patient檚 wish to create better condition, similar with cosmetics. I often make an analogy that we are just an artist who wants to create something more beautiful, he explained.
In its development, plastic surgery also covers the field of aesthetics. It provides services for people who in their own will want to improve their body parts. They want it without any coercion and with a logical reason. Plastic surgeons are obliged to comply with the ethical and religious values. Therefore, not all patients can be directly assisted.
The prospect of plastic surgery in the future is promising as the population is growing. The demand of plastic surgeons will also rise. Therefore, higher education institution such as 51动漫 should produce more experts in this field of study.
