UNAIR NEWS – Prof. Dr. Fedik A. Rantam, DVM, is an of Virology and Immunology. Fedik pursues researches on dengue fever, develops Dengue Vaccine in Indonesia and even is a member of dengue fever vaccine consortium.
Besides dengue fever vaccine, Fedik also keen on examining Stem Cell. The existence of it after traditional and antibiotic medicine makes it considered as the latest regenerative medicine. Thus, the prospect of Stem Cell in the future is enormous considering the high market demand.
Concisely Stem Cell is a candidate cell of various organs; mostly called as a pre differentiated cell. Stem Cell can change into numerous cells, start from heart cell, liver cell, to nerve cell. Therefore, Stem Cell can be the ultimate weapon against all diseases, particularly degenerative diseases like Parkinson.
Recently, this Head of Stem Cell Research and Development Center is continuously developing various Stem Cell characters. The latest one is Fedik develops Hair Follicle Stem Cell, where pore cells are installed by shrinking the cells growth factor to its Nano level so that thinning hair can regrow.
Besides that, lately there is a development of genetic-installed Stem Cell which is capable of carrying genes into human body. In fact, Stem Cell is also being developed to carry medicine, considering its character of 渕oving straightly to the injured organ.
淪tem Cell has good prospect in Indonesia. We are determined to be the best. Indonesia has just been introduced to Stem Cell, that檚 why the prospect is enormous. On the other hand, I want to show people abroad that we have our own technology which is potential to be developed, he said.
As with Dengue Vaccine, this Vice Dean I of Medicine has been developing Dengue Vaccine for dengue fever as well. After arriving home from Germany in 1998, the man who obtained his doctorate from Freie Universitaet Germany started his research on dengue fever and its immunology. Therefore, the development design of this dengue fever vaccine is not in regular model, but a Chimera Vaccine instead.
In his free time between the researches, Fedik actively published scientific works, whether in national or international scale. Among others are 淗ybrid Fab Immunoglobulin (IgG) as Development of Vaccine and Diagnostic Hit in 2015; and 淎nalysis of Recombinant Envelope (E) Protein Multivalent Dengue Virus Serotype -1,-3,-4 Expressed by Baculovirus System in 2013.
