UNAIR NEWS “Chemistry program is one of the programs at 51¶¯Âþ whose actions are indubitable. The program which was established in 1982 has earned certification from ASEAN University Network Quality Assessment (AUN “ QA). The certification proves that this under Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UNAIR program has been internationally approved.
When being met in his office, Dr. Purkan M.Si., as the Head of Chemistry Program explained that the program he is in charge of honors the jargon of œBased on academic with excellence morality. Under the jargon, students are not only taught competent academic lessons, but also supplied with character building in order to make them outstanding graduates. He also mentioned that besides those qualities, Chemistry program is also excellent in the field of academy and research.
œChemistry is fundamental in science. Well, science is the base for various applications, whether in industry, health, or agriculture, said Purkan.
œCurriculum in UNAIR Chemistry is flexible, following current development and not obsolete; since it is updated regularly, adaptive, and absorptive in the job market. Therefore, when establishing curriculum, we always involve the stake holders, such as chemistry graduate users (company or institute), alumni, and scientists from other universities as well as human resources at Chemistry program itself, Purkan added.
Purkan explained that Chemistry program has academically outstanding students. This is proven by the numerous achievements they attained in the last 9th Pimnas as well as in several national and international Science Olympiads.
The program is also supported by professional lecturers who have been doing a lot of work in their field. Purkan then added that Chemistry program is equipped with laboratory facility and sophisticated instruments to help improve students™ capability to research and analyze chemical systems. In Chemistry program, students are often involved in to sharpen their knowledge and innovation ability to boost new research inventions.
According to the tracer regularly conducted by Chemistry program, 75% of its graduates currently work in the field of industry and research, and the rest as academics like lecturers or teachers. A lot of Chemistry program alumni are building their career as lecturers or researches in different countries.
œWe provide our graduates with an understanding about chemical concepts and ability to develop them. So that when they plunge into industrial field, they are able to develop their academic skills so they will be adaptable, Purkan said.
UNAIR Chemistry is steadily developing its capacity and education quality in order to improve not only students™ hard skill but also their soft skill thus the program can produce graduates who are competent in their field.
œFor the future students and parents, don™t worry about studying at Chemistry program because we provide the students with excellence based academic with morality, so besides having the highest academic support, students will also learn to build their character virtuously. Studying at UNAIR, even with a general background, also means finding a place for character building, Purkan concluded. (*)
