UNAIR NEWS– Based on their invention of high-fiber livestock feed from dragon fruit leaf waste, four 51动漫 students receivedan internationalawardfrom National Research Council of Thailand.The award wasgiven in Seoul, South Korea, it was named Thailand Award for The Best International Invention.
The four students are Agustina Lia Fitriani, Rizki Jian Utami, Ishomatul Faizah, and Hayu Ulfaningrum.The four are currently active third semester students of Faculty of Nursing UNAIR.
Initially, Agustina and her team sent an abstract for an event, Seoul International Invention Fair 2017 (SIIF 2017).From the abstract submission, the team was invited to follow the forum held from 29 November-3 December 2017.
Agustina and team claimed to feel inferior to be invited because,the internationaleventwas not only followed by teams from Asian countries, but also from various countries across the continent including Russia and United States of America (USA).
There are 18 teams from Indonesia were invited in the prestigious event.Not only from universities, some participants areentrepreneursand investors from PT Pertamina.Meanwhile, students from Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Diponegoro University (Undip), University of North Sumatra (USU), and UNAIR.
“Well, I was surprised, because I thought the activities were only students.I was wrong.There were big companies such as PT Pertamina, “Agustina said.
In Seoul, Agustina and the team did two presentations, in theboothon the first day and inthe exhibition forumfor the second presentation.
In the presentation, she and her team presented a paper entitled “Utilization of Dragon Fruit Waste for High Fiber Diet of Animal”.Agustina admitted to be inspired by residents around her home that came from Jambi.When she did her research, Jambi was promoting dragon fruit plantations.However, Agustina regretted one thing, the people around her did not utilized dragon fruit trees.
“In the society, the trees are sometimes just thrown away and considered as waste.Well, my father often destroyed the tree trunk with a simple tool then fed them to the cows, “said Agustina.
According to Agustina’s father, it is quite helpful because it can be an alternative of grass.In addition, the utilization of dragon fruit trees is able to help optimizing the waste of tree trunks that must be cut once every six months.
“From there, I was inspired to make the trunk of a dragon fruit tree as a high fiber meal for animals.And, I innovated the material for catfish food in the form of pellets, ” said Agustina.
Besides joining the forum, they are invited for a 媼touraround South Korea.On the night after the event, there was a dinner with the president of SIIF 2017 which was also followed by all participants.
For the award, Agustina and the team would like to thank the lecturers who have given guidance for the paper they presented.“We would like to thank Mr. Setho Hadiyusmana S.Kep., Ns., M.NS.(CommHlth & PC), our lecturers who have been helpful, “said Agustina.(*)
