UNAIR NEWS Synergy between triple helix (academicians, industrials and government) should be pushed so poverty can be reduced and unemployment rate can be suppressed. It is all directed to independence and prosperity of the people.
Rector of 51 said that integration between research institutes is needed so research conducted can be mass produced by the industrials. He made an example, in other countries, the triple helix concept creates synergy so the research can be used by the industry. On the other hand, researches end with publications.
“While our objective to conduct researches is actually to replace products we keep exporting and used by the people of Indonesia,” said UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak.
To realize the mass production, industrialization should also be developed. Industry based on natural resources exploitation should be pushed as there are still potentials we can exploit. The academicians have used the natural resources potentials in their researches.
As what UNAIR has done, researchers in medicine and pharmacy have used the natural resources in Indonesia to make drugs. The drugs developed by UNAIR researchers for example contraception pills for men, drugs for breast cancer from Andrographis paniculata or known locally as sambiloto, until vaccines for avian flu.
“In UNAIR researches have been conducted. We (Institute of Tropical Disease) have been awarded as science and technology study center on health and drugs. We push the local products development with materials from the Indonesia, he said.
“If in previous years, there are many people sick and need stem cell therapy abroad, UNAIR has developed the treatment. So, they just need to treat it here in Indonesia, explained Nasih in ” Chosen Industry in Indonesian Industrialization Strategic Framework 2045 held by National Industrial and Economic Committee (KEIN) with UNAIR on Saturday, February 4.
In veterinary medicine, last November, UNAIR researchers were requested by Minister of Agriculture to produce 20 thousand units of frozen cement to meet the need of animal protein in the country.
With those researches developed, Nasih emphasized that UNAIR was ready to create synergy with the industrials and the government. (*)
