SNMPTN Participants Suggested to Choose Linear Programs

UNAIR NEWS Frequently asked question regarding student admission is about the students reluctance to choose programs such as choosing program different from their disciplines for National State University Admission Selection (SNMPTN).

To overcome their reluctance, Head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) 51动漫 Drs. Suko Widodo, M.Si., suggested the participants of SNMPTN to choose linear programs. 淲hy? Because SNMPTN scoring has determined certain subjects for each program, said Suko.

For Science (IPA) students, their academic performance is assessed from their Maths, Indonesian, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology scores. For Social studies (IPS), the report scores assessed are Maths, Indonesian, English, Economics, Geography and Sociology while for Language students should focus on their Maths, Indonesian, English, Indonesian Literature, Anthropology and one of the foreign students.

淪o when IPA students choose IPS programs, automatically their Economics, Sociology and Geography scores will be empty. Therefore, it is a good idea for SNMPTN participants to choose linear programs, he added.

The statement was made by Suko in a Talkshow Campus Expo held by Guidance and Counseling Teachers Forum (MGBK) Surabaya. It was attended by senior high schools students in and around Surabaya on Thursday, January 19 in DBL Arena Surabaya.

Beside explanation on choosing programs, Suko also explained briefly the admission channels of UNAIR. In 2017, UNAIR receives students from SNMPTN, State University Joint Selection Admission(SBMPTN), and Independent channel.

Regarding the quota revision, UNAIR follows the central committee regulation which is at least 30% for SNMPTN, 30% for SBMPTN and max 30% for Independent channel. The remaining 10% is based on each university檚 policy.

Beside the admission quota, schools accredited A get 50% quota, accredited B get 30%, accredited C get 10% and non accredited schools get 5%.

Enthusiasm was seen from the audience during questioning sessions. One of the students from SMA Negeri 13 Surabaya, Tomy, asked about the SNMPTN scoring index, the GPA of alumni of the schools.

淎lumni assessment is not only from the successful SNMPTN, but also SBMPTN and Independent channel. Even the GPA of alumni also affect the school track record, said Suko.

Another question came from a parent of SMA Muhammadiyah Surabaya student. The parent asked about the SNMPTN registration flow. 淐an a private school student apply for SNMPTN? Then who is going to perform data entry? asked the talkshow audience.

In response to the questions, Suko explained that any schools, public, private or vocational school can take part in SNMPTN based on the regulations of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.

Regarding the data entry, it is started from the database of schools and students (PDSS) which is completed by the school. If students qualify based on school accreditation, each student will get a voucher code from the school to verify the data entered by the school and choose the desired programs.

In the end of the event, Suko gave some advice to the students, teacher and parents. 淐hoose programs in line with the students interest and talent. Choose based on your passion, he said. (*)
