UNAIR NEWS South Korea is a favourite country for Indonesian students. Many students have had experience to study in Korea. This time, there are four students who have the chance to study at Chonnam National University, South Korea.
The four UNAIR students are Duriati Asmawati (Political Science 2012), Nurul Aisyah (Political Science 2012), Debora Danisa (Communication Science 2012), and Rizka Amalia (Accounting 2014). Four of them are in Spring 2016 program in Chonnam National University (CNU) from February 28 June 21, 2016.
They have various reasons to choose South Korea as their place to study. Nurul said she wanted to feel the academic atmosphere in one of the best five universities in South Korea. Debora wanted to gain experience from student exchange program.
Duriati had her own reason. As Political Science student, she wanted to know how South Korea can be one of the Asian Tigers.
淭here檚 curiosity on how South Korea can mix Confucianism tradition with western democracy. It檚 even more interesting when the campus itself was the place where activists gathered to establish a country based on democracy or its people especially Gwangju, said Duriati.
Coffee hours
There were many interesting activities they followed during their stay in South Korea. They joined a discussion club named 楥NU Coffee Hours. They were in three groups, Indonesian Coffee Hours, Korean Coffee Hours, and Japanese Coffee Hours. They also joined KISSA (Korea International Students Support Association).
淚n KISSA, we discussed major topics such as unification of South and North Korea, Nurul said. Duriati also added, 滻ssue on Korean Peninsula Unification is very interesting. We met and listened directly from Korean who put their lives on the line to get out from their countries.
淔urthermore, a while ago, regional election was also simultaneously held in South Korea. As Political Science student I am interested because I could see it directly the process of democracy in South Korea, added Duriati.
Their activities in South Korea were not only having discussions. They also visited cultural festival in Korea. Nurul said that one of her best experiences was being in Yeongam cultural festival.
淥ne of the best experiences was when me and friends attending 楪FN (Gwangju Foreign Language Network) 1蝉迟 in Yeongan WangIn Cultural Festival. My team was the only one from Indonesia in the event, said Nurul.
With many experiences in Korea, they hoped the academic atmosphere in CNU to be presented in UNAIR. One of the activities like coffee hours can be applied in UNAIR.
淐offee hours can include foreign students so the development works both ways. Local student can learn English and other language depend on the group joining. Foreign students can also befriend with local students, said Nurul. (*)
