UNAIR NEWS The content of nutrients in fish is undoubted. Besides rich in fat, fish also contain other important ingredients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals. If all this time salmon has been hailed as the 渟uper fish because of being highly nutritious, what about anchovies?

Recently, the content of nutrients in anchovies brought its own benefit in the study of dentistry. Dr. Tecky Indriana, drg., MKes, in her dissertation proposes that the content of nutrients in anchovies has been proven beneficial in improving bone formation process or osteogenesis. This best doctoral graduate of Faculty of Medicine 51动漫 has succeeded in passing her study with a GPA of 3.93.

Tecky started her research from the problem which she had often encountered in doing her practice. When taking care of orthodontic patients, she had often found relaps; a condition when teeth which have been properly arranged in the dental arch, shift back to their original position in the end of treatment. This is a problem for the dentist and the patient himself.

She undertook the research by doing experiments to animals which had been installed with an orthodontic tool to move their teeth and were given anchovies as a staple of their food. Anchovies which were used took the form of dry fish powder; fresh anchovies were processed to make this powder. The result of this is that anchovies can improve the osteogenesis process.

淭his research cannot be concluded as a relaps prevention yet, however it is confirmed that anchovies can be an alternative ingredient for calcium which can be used, because the result of this research shows that they can accelerate the bone formation process, she explained.

This lady, born in Banyuwangi November 26, 1968, is planning to continue the result of the research. 淚t is because what I have researched is still in a very early stage. Besides, it is expected to reveal more the mysteries of tiny anchovies which have been underestimated as the food for the poor, said the mother of Beryl Alovan Ragasso. (*)
