UNAIR NEWS – As an activist in the field of health and sexuality, Dewi Rokhmah has conducted many researches related to sexual behavior that occurred in her native region, Jember.In her dissertation, Dewi described four factors that cause a man to have homosexual (LSL).
The four factors that cause homosexual behavior to appear in men are the traumatic experiences in childhood as victims of sexual violence, improper parenting patterns, the influence of the social environment including the use of gadgets, and exposure to pornography.
The graduate with perfect GPA explained that the formation process of sexual orientation took place gradually.Starting from childhood, especially for survivors of sexual violence.
“The impacts, the children get confused determining sexual orientation when they become adolescents.This period is the turning point that causes a person to be homosexual, “explained Dewi.
Furthermore, in adolescence, they seek sexual identity by seeking evidence of homosexual orientation.At this age they experience a period of dissociation and signification, realizing that they are homosexual.
“In adulthood, they are open about their identity as homosexual in the community and even the public,” added this Malang-born lecturer.
According to her, the formation of homosexual orientation can be prevented as long as the community is not indifferent to the personal and community figures.The goal, is to reduce the existence of the community.On the other hand, the public should not give stigma and discriminate homosexuals.
Parents should also implement proper parenting, early childhood sex education, religious understanding, effective communication development, recognizing sociable themes, and building online resilience with children.
The government also needs to play a role.At the local level, the government needs to coordinate with relevant parties such as the Commission on Child Protection, the Health Agency, and the Education Office to issue programs increasing the role of families and schools related to reproductive and sexual health education.
At the central level, the government must be media literate by selecting broadcast that display homosexual behavior, whether on television, cinema, or internet networks.In addition, the government must provide strict sanctions for violators.(*)
