UNAIR NEWS –People need to be aware of leptospirosis.The reason, this disease caused byLeptospira sp. can cause infection in the kidney, abortion, even death.
Knowledge on leptospirosis is is intensified in the community.The academic community of three programs from the Faculty of Vocational Studies 51动漫 conducted counseling as well as examination to detect the presence of leptospirosis disease.
This community service by the three programs, D-4 Radiology, D-3 Traditional Healer and D-3 Animal Health was held in RW V, Gubeng Sub-district, Friday, July 28. It was attended by about 120 local residents.
Coordinator of D-4 Radiology program, specialist doctor and radiology consultant Lailatul Muqmiroh said that residents living in Kertajaya region has a high risk of leptospirosis.The reason, they live around the river flow and densely populated settlements.The situation is exacerbated by the annual floods after heavy rains.
“Residents who live around the waste and puddles have a high risk of getting leptospirosis.There are rats in almost every house in Surabaya.Meanwhile, leptospirosis is mostly transmitted through rat urine.Not to mention if there is flood and or dense settlement, “said dr. Lailatul.
There are many community service activities this time.Communities are invited to pre-test and post-test knowledge about leptospirosis, counseling, human health examinations, and pet vaccinations.
From the livestock health aspect, citizens can understand in general about leptospirosis disease.In terms of radiology, people are invited to recognize the symptoms that arise in humans when leptospirosis begins to emerge.Meanwhile, from the side of traditional healers, participants are invited to improve the pattern of life through food.
“We doultrasoundscreeningbecause mostleptospirainfect the kidneys and urinary tract. We did screening to 25 people, while the vaccination to 20 pets, “explained dr. Lailatul.
In order to maintain the health of the kidneys, the speaker who is also a nutritionist D-3 Battra Edith Frederica Puruhito, M.Sc., gave some tips to the residents.
“Make juice with a mixture of carrots, cucumber to be fresh.Then to add sweetness, I usually do not add sugar or honey but coconut water.If you whip it, it won檛 be too thick.This could be an option for the community to maintain kidney health, “said Edith.
With the conducted community service, people know the high risk of the disease that may attack them and they can maintain their health.
