UNAIR NEWS– A company called Pricewater Coopers (PwC) projects Indonesia economy to be the 5th largest in the world by 2030. The position will make Indonesia a big growing market.World Bank 2015 data states that Indonesia’s economic growth as the most stable in Asia.So, what should Indonesia do to realize the PwC projections?
Dato™ Sri Prof.Dr.(H.C.) Tahir, MBA, a philanthropist who has just been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by on Thursday, March 3 responded to the challenge.According to him, Indonesia has renewable and geographical resources that are not owned by other developed countries.It is a huge potential that must be developed.
To improve resources that lack sustainability and competitiveness, Tahir has some solutions.Among other things, the improvement of infrastructure, industrialization of agribusiness, human resources, andgood governance.
As the lungs of the world, Tahir said, Indonesia can docarbon trade offstrategy.The role is expected to give more value to negotiate with the world funding agency.
“Indonesia as the lungs of the world is expected to give Indonesia’s bargaining power compared to other countries in terms offundingacceptanceto be allocated as state development,” said Tahir
The industrialization of agribusiness is realized by revitalizing the downstream structure and modern agricultural technology.
The process of changing the system of Indonesian agribusiness is done from changing the production process to the arrival of goods to the customer.Agricultural and plantation factories in Indonesia need to be revitalized as a whole, from the technology used, human resources, financial system along with the financing.
“The government can appoint BUMN or private parties by providing tax incentives to be interested in investing in agribusiness products or commodities,” Tahir said.This needs to be done so that Indonesia does not only depend on imports such as rice, corn, and meat commodities.
While in the field of human resources, the man born in Surabaya, March 26, 1952, revealed that Indonesia should increase cooperation with educational institutions in and outside the country in order to improve the productivity of applicable researches on the current problems.Indonesia also needs to learn from othercountries that have good quality education for benchmarking and return to apply it in Indonesia.
“All of those are so the character of Indonesian human resources can compete.It needs seriousness from allstakeholdersto change the education of Indonesia to a better direction, ” said Tahir.Because, he continued, the government has allocated 20 percent of the budget for education in Indonesia.
In the oration, Tahir revealed that the fate of the nation can only change through education.Therefore, if there is a chance, he suggested anyone to go to school as high as possible.
Finally,good governance.Good governance is implemented by maintaining macro and micro stability through legislation that supports the achievement of economic inclusiveness.(*)
