UNAIR NEWS Oral diseases specialist dentists have the ability to detect dangerous diseases in the body such as HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB). Through thorough examination and anamnesis process of patients, dentists can detect the virus early on.
To improve the dentists ability in early detection, Department of Oral Disease, Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) 51动漫 held a workshop titled 淎wareness on HIV and Tuberculosis, What Dentists Can Do. The workshop was held in Airlangga Medical Education Center (AMEC), Faculty of Medicine (FK) on Saturday, November 26.
Head of the committee, Kus Harijanti, M.Kes, drg., Sp.PM, said that this seminar was held to share knowledge among dentists and specialists as the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and TB has been high as well as to give training on detecting HIV/AIDS and TB early on.
淗opefully, dentists in regional level can detect HIV patients. Through this event we also promote discussion on medical field as well as improving awareness and giving hopes to people with HIV/AIDS (ODHA), said Kus.
The workshop was attended by four speakers with different expertise. They are FKUNAIR lecturer, Erwin Astha Triyono, dr., Sp.PD., KPTI., FINASIM, UNAIR TB expertProf. Dr. Ni Made Mertaniasih, dr., MS., SP.MK (K), oral disease expert of FKG UNAIR Hening Tuti Hendarti, drg., MS., Sp.PM, and paramedic often involved with HIV/AIDS Misutarno, S.Kep., MS.
During TB workshop with Prof. Made as the speaker, there were 80 participants making preparation on supporting examination for specimen in the oral cavity. In the second workshop with Misutarno, participants were invited to conduct anamnesis to ODHA. The objective is to make ODHA check their HIV in their body. The dentists during anamnesis should be serious, gentle and also make the patients trust them.
The workshop participants were 220 dentists and specialists. They were from many regions in Indonesia such as East Java, West Java, Papua, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Bali. (*)
