UNAIR Completes Preparation to Welcome Economics Nobel Winner

UNAIR NEWS Thorough preparation has been made to organize the scientific oration of the economics nobel winner, Prof. Robert F. Engle III. Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business UNAIR Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, S.E., M.Si, as the person in charge of the event said that her unit has coordinated with International Peace Foundation (IPF). Last preparation meeting was held on Tuesday, December 6 in FEB UNAIR.

Prof. Dian stated that her unit has made a rundown and delegated personnel to handle the detail of the events such as managing the event, distributing invitation and other preparations.

淓very PIC (person in charge) has presented in detail on their responsibilities. Preparation has reached 60%, said Prof. Dian.

As planned, the public lecture is going to be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 and it will be attended by representatives of Ministry of Finance, BI Governor, and Commissioner of Financial Service Authority (OJK). It will be continued with a discussion between participants and the speaker. The public lecture will be moderated by senior journalist, Desi Anwar.

The public lecture will be attended by 2000 participants from various stakeholders of UNAIR such as representatives of state and private universities and also the administration.

Prof. Engle is a world class economist who has won a nobel prize winner in 2003. With his research partner, the professor of Stern School of Business, New York University, Amerika Serikat, has developed methods of analyzing economictime series with time-varyingvolatility (ARCH).

Later on, Prof. Engle will deliver a lecture titled The Prospect for Global Financial Stability in Airlangga Convention Center. With a dialog with the economist, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, hoped that the academicians can gain great insight especially in economics.

淚t is important as the nobel prize winner will talk about economics in UNAIR. We all know that Indonesian economy is facing instability, conflict and uncertainty and they can be a real threats for Indonesia, said Prof. Nasih.

The public lecture is a part of 淭he 6thASEAN Event Series 淏ridges Dialogue For A Cultural of Peace. It has been routinely organized by IPF since 2003. The countries which have held this event are Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Singapore. In 2017, Indonesia will also hold the event, one of the venues is UNAIR.
