UNAIR NEWS Six contingents from 51动漫 under Karawitan and Dance Activity Unit (UKTK) succeeded in winning a dance competition held by Indonesia, Friday (17/3). The competition entitled Lomba Tari National Folklore Festival Indonesia 2017.
In the competition held at the Hall of Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, UKTK UNAIR contingent snatched the first, followed by the contingent from Universitas Gadjah Mada on the second place, and Universitas Negeri Jember on the third.
UKTK contingent performed Jaripah dance, a dance about the history of Barong from Desa Kemiren, Kabupaten Banyuwangi. It is about a beautiful man, gentle, as well as courageous who roamed among Osing community. He also delivered religious preaching and became one of religious dissemination in Java.
After a phase of internal selection, seven students were chosen to represent UNAIR in the competition. However, one of the students failed to come until the end of the competition because she was ill.
Naturally a lively dance, the six dancers had to show agility while dancing Jaripah. They had to be able to play two characters at once, being flirtatious and courageous. 淔or me it was very challenging, said Ajeng Lailly, one of the dancers.
It took 1.5 months preparation for UKTK to show off in this competition. They underwent a very detailed preparation beforehand, from selecting dancers internally, flexibility training, routine and intensive exercise from late in the afternoon until early morning.
淯ndergoing a process at UKTK is awesome. Not just exercising, but also learning to ooze inner meaning into a dance. Especially when performing Jaripah dance, being flirtatious while holding a barong. What a challenge!, said Ajeng, one of the dancers. (*)
