UNAIR NEWS “Ìý has hosted the National Work Meeting of Association of Indonesian College Publishers (APPTI) III which previously took place at Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta.ÌýIn Mukernas APPTI III, “The role of APPTI in formulating democratic development” was the theme of the activity.ÌýThis event was aimed to create synergy among institutions of college publishers in Indonesia.
“To lessen the disparity between college publishers, APPTI III is a forum for discussion in support of future developments,” said Drs.ÌýAribowo M.S as the host who is also Director of Airlangga University Press.
Attending the event, Directorate General of Kemenristek Dikti Dr.ÌýIr.ÌýPatdono Suwgnjo M. Eng., Sc., expressed his support and appreciation for the implementation of APPTI III which was followed by 49 universities.ÌýThe echelon I official stated that the development of publishing is so fast that it must be responded quickly in response to the global competition.
“It is time for the publisher of universities to work together summarizing the best ideas in each university,” he added.
Vice Governor of East Java Drs.ÌýH. Syaifullah Yusuf was also present in the occasion.ÌýIn his speech, the vice governor who is familiarly called Gus Ipul said that the challenge of digital era should be addressed seriously because the development of knowledge is very important in the digital era.ÌýGus Ipul advised that publishers should anticipate this sort of thing and should publish scientific works in digital version.
In addition to the statement of Gus Ipul, Vice Rector IV Junaidi Khotib, S.Si., M.Kes., Ph.D. in his speech said that the latest data submitted by the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKPI) stated that the number of books proposed to obtain anÌýinternational book numberÌýwas 44,128 book titles.ÌýWith average of 711, a publisher only publishes 62 titles per year.
“It is still far from expectation that every publisher should be able to publish more than 200 books every year in order to educate the nation,” he explained.
Junaidi sees that the development of the digital era, especially for students who are now fond of electronic writing provides a challenge for the publisher to continue to innovate.ÌýSo later they can realize the nation’s ideal.
“This event is expected to increase the community reading interest by supporting the availability of quality scientific works.ÌýHowever, it can be accessed by the wider community through the role formulated by APPTI, “added Junaidi.
