UNAIR Rector Encourages Professors to Implement their Knowledge

UNAIR NEWS– UNAIR Rector Prof.Dr.Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., inaugurated three new professors on Thursday, December 14. It was held in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building Campus C UNAIR. On that occasion, the rector appealed to the professors to immediately implement their knowledge.

The three professors are Prof.Dr.H. Bambang Purnomo Soenardirahardjo, MS, drh., PA Vet. (K), Professor of Veterinary Embryology from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine;Prof.Dr.dr.R. Heru Prasetyo, MS, Sp.ParK, Professor of Medical Parasitology from Faculty of Medicine (FK);and Prof.Dr.Merryana Adriani, SKM., M.Kes.(Dietitien), Professor of Health Nutrition Sciences, from Faculty of Public Health.

“A decree of professorship is not the end of the service nor it is the end of a lecturer檚 career.In fact, this is the beginning of true service, “Prof.Nasih said.

Prof.Nasih added, after the inauguration of professors, difficult task and work waiting to be completed.The task is to implement various scientific concepts.He hoped that one of the professors will be able to make inventions that can be directly utilized by the community.

“It is known there are still many diseases whose cures have not been founded.Of course, with the permission of Allah, this drug will be founded by professors inaugurated today, “said Prof.Nasih.

Prof.Nasih was referring to one of the professors who studies the potential of honey as one of the drugs to overcome HIV-AIDS that until now the cure has not been founded.

To the new professors, Prof.Nasih emphasized to improve the practice of Higher Education Tri Dharma.They do not only educate, but also do research and community service.

“Alternative efforts must emerge from the academic forums of UNAIR professors UNAIR.There are important things burdened on the shoulders of great teachers.Not just the teaching, but also research and community, ” he said.

Prof.Heru the active professor of the 109th FK gave an oration about the anticipation to the threat of opportunistic infections especially in the case of people with HIV-AIDS (ODHA).Opportunistic infections are infections caused by organisms that can attack people with poor immune systems like people living with HIV AIDS (ODHA).

Prof.Heru provided an example in cases of Cryptosporidiosis, opportunistic infections of theCryptosporidiumprotozoa parasiteresult in chronic diarrhea.In fact, to people living with HIV AIDS, it can lead to death.

In addition, in his presentation, Prof.Heru explained that honey has the potential to be an intake to be applied to the regeneration process of HIV / AIDS sufferers who suffered intestinal mucosal damage due to opportunistic infection ofCryptosporidium.

And then, Prof.Merry who is the 12th active professor of FKM, from her research data, showed that obesity in children and adolescents is increasing.The condition often triggers the emergence of degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s, cardiovascular, Alzheimer’s, and hypertension.

Prof.Merry proposed a solution to the problem.The solution is the recommendation to consume nutritious, balanced, and safe foods.She believes that consumption of nutritious food can ward off free radicals that enter the body. The balance means that the food and beverages consumed are adjusted with needs, age, gender, physical activity, and physiological conditions.

Next, safe food is food free of chemicals such as borax and rhodamine.Food that contain unsafe preservatives should not be consumed.

“In principle, if we respond to nutritious, balanced and safe foods, free radicals can be controlled so it will not enter our bodies considerably.So, we can avoid disease early on, ” said Prof.Merry.

Next oration was delivered by Prof.Bambang.The professor of Embryology provides an explanation of embryology that includes the development of normal embryos.For him, it is necessary to make it easier to understand the various studies on principles and descriptions related to the effects of teratogenic exposure.

“Therefore, to understand the mechanism of teratogens, we must first know the development of embryo from the gametes encounter,” he explained.

About the development of embryo, Prof.Bambang also explained that the development is characterized by the development of blastosul which occurs in blastula phase.Blastosul, for him, serves as a bearing for embryonic development.However, in every phase of embryonic development, according to Prof.Bambang, there is a degree of susceptibility to different teratogens.

“The most sensitive period to cause birth defects in animals or livestock is during pregnancy from week three to week eighth,” he added.

Inauguration of the professor was attended by 500 invitations.Consisting of family and colleagues from the professors and guests ofUNAIRacademic community.The inauguration of the three professors added UNAIR professors.As of now, UNAIR檚 active professors have reached 180 people.(*)
