UNAIR NEWS Before I start the class, Id like to first say Bonjour! said Julien starting the French Class for staff in 51.
Bon meansgood. Bonjour means hello. So, I will welcome you guys in front of the room with Hello. Bonjour also means good morning or good day, said Julien.
Besides bonjour, a teacher from Institut Francais Indonesia (IFI) also invited the staff to practice the other greetings, bonsoir which means good afternoon.
But, if you want to address your friends in an informal context, say salut, said the tall man.
Starting the language class, Julien asked the participants to use the words used every day. For example, greetings and introduction.
The first meeting of this French Class on Wednesday, August 30 was quite interactive. The teacher, in English, explained the lessons in an easy way to follow.
In the room on third floor of Campus B UNAIR Library, Julien wrote the words one by one. For each word or phrase he wrote, he then pronounced it.
He asked the participants to say the words. Merci! Merci is thank you. When your friends say merci you should answer is de rien. It means youre welcome, or Its nothing, said the man in a blue shirt.
Almost a hundred participants enthusiastically took notes on the phrases they just learned. Some of them even recorded the class in a video. The class lasted for 90 minutes.
Staff of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH), Hedy Dyah Syahputri was impressed with the first French class held for UNAIR staffs. She said that it was an important training for staff to improve their communication skill.
Its interesting. It improves our morale. So I think we were given attention as employees. And its free for three months, said Hedy.
Besides Hedy, there was I Wayan Putra Radityawan who appreciated Human Resources Directorate for initiating the class. In the future, he expected more continuity for the language program.
There should be some follow up for this program, such as going abroad for internship or study abroad to practice the language. UNAIR staffs can promote UNAIR overseas, maybe in France. UNAIR should also facilitate it, hoped Wayan.
