UNAIR NEWS– Elected as the base of Indonesia-Taiwan Education Center office for Surabaya, and even East Java, continues to hold a program which strengthens cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan in the field of higher education.One of them is through Mandarin Chinese Teacher Training Workshop held on Thursday-Saturday, January 18-20.
Held in Room 302, third floor of UNAIR Management Office, the workshop was followed by 15 participants from various regions, not just East Java, some are from Bali. Asst.Prof.Shiao-Yuh Chou from Asia University and Assoc.Prof.Chen-Huei Wu from National Tsing Hua University Taiwan were also attending.
Prof.Dr.Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., as Executive Director of Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) on behalf of Rector of UNAIR said that the program was the first step in strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan.The workshop will be followed up with other programs.
“In this first step,the workshopis still targeting Mandarin teachers and then for the students, ” she said.“In the future, this kind of activity will make it easier for students to learn Mandarin,” she told UNAIR NEWS.
Meanwhile, according to Prof.Nyoman, the presence of the Indonesia-Taiwan Education Center office at UNAIR, especially with the workshop programs, became an excellent opportunity for UNAIR, especially in terms of the development of higher education related to Taiwan.
“Also, its presence is able to develop the mastery of Mandarin as one of the international languages 媼in UNAIR environment,” she added.“It means, our students (UNAIR, ed) can learn Mandarin more easily,” she added.
As one of the recognized international languages, Mandarin has the opportunity to elevate the competitiveness of students for their career in the global world.Because, globalization is not something that can be avoided.Open competition between nations is obviously going to happen.
“With the mastery of international language, in addition to English, Mandarin will lift and make student competitiveness to be better.Especially to enter global professional world, ” she explained.
At the end, Prof.Nyoman said the program’s follow-up is planned to be held in February. It is a workshop program for UNAIR students.
“Hopefully February can be done.In fact, in the future it can also for the people in Surabaya, also East Java, ” she said.
