UNAIR NEWS –Indonesian Independence Day celebrations can be done in various ways.One of them is through a collaboration between communities in Surabaya to hold flag ceremonies and plantmangroveon the coast.
Being held in Bintang Mangrove Wonowisata Gunung Anyar Tambak Surabaya area on Saturday, August 18, the activity was initiated by Urban Care River School, Bintang Mangrove Wonowisata, PLN Peduli, Forkada, and Kampung Dolanan.The activity was followed by 51 participants with nine boats as transportation.
The Urban Care community together with other parties and communities collaborated in escorting participants along the river from Bintang Mangrove Wonowisata pier to the estuary of PLN Peduli Monitoring Post.
During the trip, participants enjoyed a beautiful panorama of natural beauty.A number of herons and monkeys can also be found in themangroveforests.
After arriving, participants held a flag ceremony guided by the commander of each ship.The event was followed by speech by Wira Buana Yudha, representative of Gunung Anyar Tambak Youth Organization.He emphasized that the community, especially the younger generation, should have more concern to the environment.
“The moment is appropriate.So, we can have the independence ceremony (Republic of Indonesia, ed) by plantingmangroveseeds.So we contribute for our nationalism and the environment as well, “he said.
After the ceremony, the activity continued with plantingmangroveseedsaround the PLN Peduli monitoring post.Urban Care representatives also planted themangroveseeds.The seeds bound to bamboo were plugged into the mud and planted in a straight line following the water flow line.
Meanwhile, Fuad Fahmi Hasan, as one of the founders of Urban Care, explained that Urban Care was a community founded by several alumni.The community cares about the problem of poverty, and the slum village through community empowerment approach.
The River School is one of the main programs among the threeUrban Careprojects.In addition to Dampingan Distren of Kali Jagir and Kampung Juang, there is an environmental school that works with PLN Peduli, especially to encourage people to be aware of the potential and problems around Gunung Anyar Tambak.
“Our people potential is to manage Wonowisata Bintang Mangrove as a tourist area.For the problem, we establish a Garbage Bank to reduce and process waste in the surrounding area of 媼Gunung Anyar Tambak (Surabaya, ed), “said the alumni of FEB UNAIR Management Department.(*)
