Vice President Jusuf Kalla Grants UNAIR Floating Hospital Team an Audience

UNAIR NEWS Like a gift from celebrating National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2017, a team of Ksatria Medika Airlangga Foundation (YKMA) which manages the operation of UNAIR Floating Hospital (RST) 淜satria Medika Airlangga, was accepted by the Vice President Drs. H. M. Jusuf Kalla, in his office on Tuesday, May 2.

To 51动漫 team led by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., the Vice President was very proud, really appreciated and supported this idea for humanity. The vice president spontaneously donated Rp 100 million to finish the phinisi boat which will work as the hospital.

滱lhamdulillah, we are truly happy for this appreciation and support given by the Vice President. He showed his full support for us, said Suwaspodo Henry Wibowo, dr., Sp.And., MARS., the secretary of YKMA to UNAIR NEWS, last Tuesday before leaving for Surabaya from Jakarta.

There were the Chief of YKMA Christrijogo Sumartono, dr., Sp.An.KAR, Head of IKA-UA Drs. Ec. Haryanto Basoeni, Head of IKA-FK. Poedjo Hartono, dr., Sp.OG(K)., Treasury officer of YKMA Herni Suprapti, dr., M.Kes, the initiator of floating hospital dr. Agus Hariyanto, Sp.B (FK UNAIR alumni who serves in Maluku Islands), IDGN Nalendra J. I., dr., Sp.B, Sp.BTKV (alumni of FK-UA, Direktur RSAL Dr. Ramelan with experiences serving on KRI Bantuan Rumah Sakit Dr. Soeharso), and some other officials.

Henry Wibowo explained that Vice President Jusuf Kalla had promised to support the operational cost which is estimated to be greater. The Vice President will consider the options on the aid later. There are some alternatives, such as with BPJS or connecting with the charity foundation owned by Bill Gates.

漋ice President suggested to operate first and then they will see which aspects to be aided, said Henry Wibowo quoting the Vice President.

The Vice President also said his willingness to come and launch officially the floating hospital 淜satria Medika Airlangga which will be launched on November 10, 2017 at the same time of 51动漫檚 63rd Anniversary.

To the Vice President, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih also explained that the floating hospital will provide healthcare service for the disadvantaged, border and archipelago regions (DPTK). At first, they will serve some islands in East Java and then reach other regions in eastern Indonesia. The floating hospital will be operated by UNAIR doctors.

UNAIR Rector was supported with dr. Agus Hariyanto, SpB., as the initiator. He said that the idea was from his experience providing healthcare in hundreds of islands in Maluku.

滻n Maluku Isles, there are 1,040 islands, 400 of them were inhabited but only six islands have hospitals such as Ambon, Pulau Seram, Tanimbar, and Kei Besar, said Agus.

To get proper access to medical service is also difficult, there is only a doctor in four islands, to reach those hundred islands and give service 40 days are needed. He even said that in Lirang Island, South West Maluku, there is an anal cancer patient who has to get treatment to Timor-Leste due to the lack of healthcare facility.

YKMA Chief, dr. Cristrijogo explained that the floating hospital was designed to work as Type C hospital. It needs Rp 5 billion for the 27m x 7.2 m boat and the medical equipements. As of early May 2017, it is still 70%, the machine is already on board and installed. (*)
