UNAIR NEWS– Asra Al Fauzi, M.D., Ph.D, FICS, IFAANS and dr Achmad Fahmi Ba檃bud SpBS from Surabaya Neuroscience Institute (SNeI) Fakultas Kedokteran 51动漫-RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya made a visit to some Vietnamese hospital. In their visit, Asra and Fahmi observed the healthcare development in the second most populated country in South East Asia after Indonesia.
Viet Duc Hospital and Francais de Hanoi Hospital in Vietnam were visited by SNel team for few days. Asra and Fahmi had discussions on mutual collaboration with some hospitals there.
The plan of mutual collaboration came up from an idea of related hospital. The limited neurosurgeons and high expectation of hospital to provide optimal service, supported the hospitals to establish partnership with FK UNAIR. But the collaboration will be different from the one established by FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo.
淭here are many health problems in Vietnam. We do not have doctors with certain special expertise, said dr Dai Ha Neurosurgery Department Deputy of Viet Duc Hospital.
Some rare specialists in Vietnam are in endovascular and neuro-functional neurosurgeons. Therefore, cases in those fields were handled by general neuro-surgeon, such as Parkinson and other movement disorder.
淥bviously, Vietnam is interested to study in Indonesia. We want to send doctors to study neuro-functionality in Indonesia, he added.
They have not been able to perform deep brain stimulation (DBS) or special device planted in the brain to reduce movement disorder. It is different from Indonesia which has been the pioneer of handling Parkinson case in South East Asia.
Mutual Partnership
Asra hoped that partnership of FK UNAIR with Vietnamese Hospital produced mutual agreement for both parties, especially for Indonesia in the future in the field of Education and research.
淪ome hospitals in Vietnam have plans to organize fellowship program with FK UNAIR. It means that we are able to bring Indonesia at international stage. It檚 time for us to go international, said Asra to UNAIR NEWS on Monday, March 20.
Beside for sharing knowledge, FK UNAIR also has opportunities to send its doctors there as visiting professor in some hospitals in Vietnam.
淚n the process of knowledge transfer, if we cannot go there directly, we can use teleconference technology. In the long run, Vietnam will be excellent market, said Asra.
Asra added, there is possibility for the patients from Vietnam to be treated here. Through this partnership, the Indonesian doctors also have possibilities to work Vietnam.
淟橦opital Francais de Hanoi offered Indonesian doctors to work in Vietnam. There is no requirement for the doctors to be able to speak local language, he said.
The field of research in Vietnam will also be a target for collaboration such as on stem cell research. FK has provided services for stem cell patient, while Hanoi hospital is still on research phase.
淲e are amazed. You (FK UNAIR) have done a lot of things. We are expecting the research publications, said the President of Hanoi Neurology Association also the Head of Neurology Department of Bach Mai Hospital, Prof Le Van Thinh Ph.D.
Meanwhile, Lucien Blanchard General Manager Francais de Hanoi Hospital stated that his hospital will add more facilities. At the moment they are building a new seven-floored building. It is predicted to be finished in the next two years and they will need a lot of doctors. 淚 will be open if some Indonesian doctors want to work here, said Blanchard.
After the meeting, Indonesian doctor team will be invited to attend ASEAN surgeon conference and in Hanoi this end of the year. Partnership of Indonesia and Vietnam will be carried on then. (*)
