In a chat program at Radio UNAIR, Rio F. Rachman stated his will to publish/reissue his book Menyikapi Perang Informasi.The book, which was published by Sarbikita Publishing in 2015, says Rio, needs more articles to make the existing articles more complete and deep. Depth, not repetition. However, the existing articles will be maintained.
In fact, the book consists of 27 short stories (140 pages) which have been published in mass media: printed as well as online. The thoughts in the book are divided into three big topics: Communication Media, Socio-Cultural, and Indonesianism. Some of the revised edition later, says Rio, apart from more articles, will be completed with topic distribution points. There might be more than three parts.
Menyikapi Perang Informasiis a definitive description of some problems in information open-climate era right now. Information flood has put people in two positions: carried away or being selective. When one is not selective and take everything shared in the internet or other media for granted, be prepared to be drown in trapping negative news.
Various problems or perspective about media and communication strategy are exposed in one big topic. While in other topic, Socio-Cultural, the Master graduate of Media and Communication UNAIR exposes many social critics on surrounding environment which becomes more selfish, materialistic, and hedonic. While in Indonesianism topic, there are many essays about the importance of boosting optimism. Why? Because truly, Indonesia is a country full of potentials to be the greatest in the world.
Interestingly, the book also explains some views about literature, his major when he finished his bachelor degree at English Literature Universitas Negeri Surabaya.
The revised edition dreamed by Rio will not far from the themes mentioned above, although he still needs to improve the book here and there. Initially, the new book was going to be released last year via Suroboyo publisher. However, he thought it would take longer preparation to make the end result more satisfactory. (*)
