UNAIR NEWS In the celebration of World Water Day on March 22, Wanala 51动漫 initiated tree planting event in the area of Campus C UNAIR on Sunday, March 19. As a student club of nature lovers, UKM Wanala always encourages the students and the community to preserve the natural balance.
In Campus C UNAIR, tree planting event was held in the area near Women Dormitory and Airlangga Convention Center (ACC). Nature lovers from universities (Mapala), schools (SISPALA), communities, students of UNAIR, 100 kindergarten students and the enthusiastic public took part in the event.
淲e are inviting all elements of society to love the nature, not only taking benefits from it, said Gangga Pamadya Bagaskara, Head of Wanala UNAIR.
After the official address of UNAIR Director of Student Affairs Dr. M. Hadi Shubhan., S.H., M.H., CN, all registered participants started to plant the trees. They dug the soil with prepared tools beforehand. Some of them brought their own tools. In this event, there are parents who taught their children to plant the trees early on.
The trees planted will be looked after by Wanala UNAIR as stated in the standard operational procedures.
The student of Management also said that excellent period to plant the trees is in September as it is the starting month of rainy season. The event was already discussed with the Forestry Agency of East Java province. The event was held in March because the they thought rainy season will last longer.
After this event, the fertilization will be done intensively and the plants will be watered periodically so they can bring positive impact to the environment.
Gangga added that the city heat can be lessened by planting trees as they can reduce the carbon emission.
淚t was interesting and fun. This kind of activity can teach students to love the nature early on, said Betris, one of the participants.
In the end of the event, the participants were given opportunities to enjoy rowing activity in the lake of Campus C. Similar events will be held in Brantas River Basin Area (DAS), Sitiarjo Village in Malang Regency on Sunday, April 23, and Trawas Sub-district, Mojokerto on Sunday, March 26. (*)
