UNAIR NEWS There are 39 bachelor programs in 51动漫, one of them is Veterinary Medicine. The Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) and the coordinator of Veterinary Medicine Bachelor Program, Prof. Dr. Pudji Srianto, drh., M.Kes shared some interesting things students will find if they study there.
- One of the Oldest Veterinary Medicine in Indonesia
FKH UNAIR has been established in 1972. In Indonesia, there are only 11 universities with Veterinary Medicine program. FKH UNAIR is the fourth oldest after Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Universitas Syiah Kuala. From 116 lecturers, there are 26 active professors in FKH.
- The Biggest Veterinary Hospital Owned by State University in Indonesia
At the moment, the six floor veterinary hospital is being built. It is predicted to be finished in 2017. Veterinary medical practices can be done here in this hospital. The first floor is used for receiving patients, student discussions and supervision. This hospital has been operated in 2004.
淭he patients received in a day can reach 100 animals. This hospital檚 revenue reaches 1.5 billion a year. The doctors are the lecturers here. They were included as community service, said Pudji.
Beside Veterinary Hospital facilities, there is also Teaching Animal Husbandry, Development and Research Lab, Diagnostic Service, Bird Diseases Unit, Molecular Biology Laboratory, Feed Laboratory, Invitro Laboratory, Frozen Cement Production Unit, and BSL 3 (Biosafety Level 3).
- International Class Program
In UNAIR, there are five international classes opened. They are for foreign students or Indonesian students. If you study in FKH UNAIR and take the international class, you will have a lot of foreigners as classmates. You can build your network and share ideas with them.
In 2016, there are 12 foreign students from Malaysia. It was the biggest foreign students admission in a faculty in Indonesia.
- Opportunity to be Zoonosis Researchers
As of now, there are a lot of infections transmitted from animals to human and vice versa. Like rabies and anthrax, Pudji said that this topic has great opportunity to be studied.
The biggest research umbrella in FKH is veterinary public health. As of now, there is a trend of One Health concept which is against zoonosis.
淚f there is a disease caused by animals, we collaborate with health and medicine experts. They deal with the human and we find out what animal causes it, said Pudji.
In FKH UNAIR, the research implementation is more about diagnostic kit innovation. The researcher creates a vaccine and produces through the third party. There are some diagnostic instruments created by FKH academician, such as Pudji and the team which created a device to detect animals mating period.
- It has Veterinary Interest Group
There are interest groups organized by Student Executive Board (BEM) FKH called Veterinary Professional Interest Group (KMPV). It is suitable for students who love certain animals such as jellyfish, ferrets, big animals, wild animals and many other animals.
淭hey collaborate with the community. The best is the ferret one. It can be used for producing coffee. The students can preserve and breed them. There are three ferrets here, almost looks like a mini zoo, said Pudji.
- From Bachelor to Doctoral program in FKH
Since its establishment, FKH from time to time, receives more students. In 2016, there were 288 students either national or international. The programs offered are from bachelor to doctoral program, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Profession bachelor programs, Reproductive Biology, Veterinary Disease and Public Health, Veterinary Agribusiness, Vaccinology and Immunotherapeutic Master programs and Veterinary Scince Doctoral program. Six of the programs are accredited A.
- Alumni Around Indonesia
Pudji said that the difference between alumni in the past and present is their career choice after the studies. They used to wish to be civil servant but now they want to start their own business and be entrepreneurs.
淥ur alumni spread in various countries and all 33 provinces in Indonesia. Almost each of them has our alumni. In the borders too, he said.
Every year, there is a reunion which enables them to build a network.
淭he business and circulation aspect is big. Every year there is a gathering of alumni. We can coordinate one another, he added.
Most importantly, the career choice is not always to be a vet. There are various career choices or they can be entrepreneurs. (*)
