UNAIR NEWS– Diah Ariani Arimbi S.S., MA., Ph.D., the Dean of Faculty of Humanities and an expert on Literary, Cultural and Gender Studies of UNAIR, has found an interesting fact when she was conducting a research on Tarbiyah Movement (exclusive for women) in some campuses in 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016.
Based on her research conducted in some campuses in East Java including UNAIR, ITS, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Universitas Brawijaya, and Universitas Jember, she found that the women activists of the movement focused on comprehensive empowerment, especially on Social and Education.
It means that this Tarbiyah Movement should be maintained as they have complete empowerment targets. All members are expected to be intelligent, aware of social situation, understanding the values of morality, religion and culture. They are also encouraged to be independent economically. 淔inancial independent is trained in that movement. It is a form of equality we must achieve. Women are not only taught about piety but also on how they are independent, she explained.
