UNAIR NEWS– Department of Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Humanities, 51动漫, presented two prominent figures in oral tradition to speak in National Seminar which was held on Thursday, April 26.They are Dr.Pudentia MPSS as Head of Central Oral Tradition Association (ATL) and Junaini Kasdan Ph.D., as Lecturer of UKM Malaysia.
Being held in the Hall Siti Parwati FIB UNAIR, the seminar on Women in Oral Tradition and Written Tradition was guided directly by Dr.Trisna Kumala Satya Dewi, MS, as lecturer of Indonesian Literature as well as Head of Oral Traditions Association Surabaya.On that occasion, Trisna said that the cooperation between UNAIR Literature with ATL is expected to provide insight on oral and written tradition to the students.
“With this seminar hopefully it can be useful and add the knowledge on our oral tradition,” she said.
Furthermore, as the first speaker, Pudentia who is also a lecturer of University of Indonesia explained that in oral and written tradition there are different topics between men and women.In addition, the importance of reviving oral tradition is one of the ways to preserve the uniqueness and diversity of the world.
“The oral tradition lives in society.And the community must take care of it, ” she asserted.
Meanwhile, Junaini, who is also alumni of Indonesian Literature, UNAIR, concerned with the Malay proverbs analyzed with inquisitive semantic approach.According to her, there are 136 proverbs about women in Malay language.
“25% in plant parable, 41% in animal parable, 34% in parable of other objects,” she explained.
In front of students, arts activists, and officials of assisted villages focusing in oral tradition, Junaini insisted that proverbs cannot be understood literally.The reason, it rationalizes the human mind as conveyed by the authors.
“This is what we need to understand together,” she concluded.
