UNAIR NEWS –The importance of maintaining healthy teeth and oral cavity continues to be encouraged by the academic community of Faculty of Dental Medicine 51动漫 (FKG UNAIR).The young dentists provided dental and oral health counseling to the cadres, pregnant women and elderly.
Health counseling held at Puskesmas Jagir and Pucang Sewu was conducted on Thursday, July 20. The leader of the activity entitled “Improving Quality of Elderly Life Through Dental and Oral Health” at Jagir Public Health Center, Alvita Wibowo, said that the event was followed by seven elderly posyandu in her group location.According to Alvita, counselling materials are tailored to the needs of local residents.
“We did a survey and check the condition of their teeth.In Jagir, there are 18 elderly integrated service post (posla).We found that the quality of oral cavity function of the elderly here is low, “said Alvita.
Based on these findings, young dentists provided interactive counseling and training to improve knowledge about the five functions of the oral cavity, the function of mastication by maintaining existing teeth, improving speech function with dentures, as well as knowledge of systemic conditions associated with oral and dental health.
“We also teach them making herbal mouthwash with leaves and black tea, as well as giving the elderly dental and mouth health books.We also teach the cadres to read the map of the oral cavity, “added Alvita who is currently undergoing her co-assistance program.
The atmosphere of counseling between students and cadres was quite interactive.In the counseling this time, the cadres are invited to know about systemic conditions in the body such as diabetes, hypertension, and coronary heart disease.
Alvita and the team were supported by the puskesmas.She was directed by a team of doctors at Puskesmas as well as in charge of Posla to invite the cadres to follow the counseling.
“Hopefully when we finish with the counseling, the cadres still give information about dental and mouth health to the elderly,” added Alvita.
She and her colleagues also hoped that the programs promoted in the counseling this time can be adopted by the health department to monitor the implementation of dental and oral health programs.
“The implementation of this counseling is also working with the Health Agency (Dinkes) of Surabaya.We monitored and presented it.A program of dental and oral health books can be proposed to Health Agency, said Alvita. (*)
