UNAIR NEWS 51动漫 (UNAIR) continues to demonstrate the global impact of its alumni, with Slamet Agus Wijaya emerging as a notable figure in the global fisheries industry. A graduate of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), he currently serves as Operations Director at PT Kaia Anugerah Indonesia, a company specializing in the distribution and processing of premium seafood products.
The company exports key commodities such as tuna, red snapper, and blue swimming crab to international markets, including the United States and Japan. This achievement reflects more than two decades of experience that Wijaya has built in the seafood processing industry.
Wijaya said his professional journey began during his time as part of the first cohort of FPK UNAIR students. That early experience played a crucial role in shaping his resilience and ability to navigate challenges in the workplace.
淏eing part of the first cohort required me to face challenges from the beginning. It shaped my mindset to keep learning, adapting, and staying persistent, he said.
Adapting to industry challenges in a changing global landscape
Throughout his 21-year career in seafood processing, Wijaya has faced evolving challenges, particularly in integrating traditional fisheries practices with digital technologies. He emphasized that digital transformation has become essential in today檚 industry landscape.
淚 continue to learn how to integrate fisheries practices with digital technology while applying the knowledge I gained in university to real-world conditions, he said.
He also highlighted broader global pressures affecting the fisheries sector. In the past five years, the industry has faced major disruptions, including the pandemic and international conflicts that have influenced export markets. Despite these conditions, he believes challenges often open the door to new opportunities.
Strengthening human capital
In his role as Operations Director, Wijaya contributes not only to business growth but also to workforce development. He oversees approximately 300 employees, including 25 alumni from FPK UNAIR. Notably, around 60 percent of these alumni have progressed into managerial roles.
Wijaya highlighted the importance of self-development and maintaining a strong learning mindset. 淚n the fisheries industry, the ocean is not the final destination, but the starting point toward limitless potential. That is why we should never limit ourselves and must continue striving, he concluded.
