UNAIR NEWS 51动漫 (UNAIR) continues to demonstrate its contribution at the national level through the achievements of its alumni. One notable example is Dr. dr. Tito Sumarwoto, SpOT, Subsp. TLBM, M.Kes., S.H., M.H., MARS., a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR, who now serves as President Director of Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopedic Hospital in Surakarta.
Discipline and resilience forged through training
Reflecting on his academic years at FK UNAIR, he highlighted discipline as the most defining value he gained during his education. Within Surabaya檚 medical training environment, the concept of 渓uding refers to a structured approach involving intensive academic workload and controlled pressure aimed at building students mental resilience. 淭he most important thing I learned is discipline. It allows us to meet expectations, stay on schedule, and maintain strict standards. Small deviations may be acceptable, but not significant ones, he explained.
Dr. Sumarwoto further noted that although the academic environment was highly demanding, it played a crucial role in shaping his character as an orthopedic specialist. 淢edical training in Surabaya is rigorous, disciplined, and communicative. It produces orthopedic doctors who are resilient, mentally strong, and capable of handling real-world challenges, he emphasized.
Leadership grounded in humility
Despite being shaped by a demanding academic environment, he adopts a leadership style that is both humble and people-oriented in managing the hospital. He embraces a Javanese philosophy known as ndelosor, which emphasizes humility and positions leadership as a form of service.
淚 do not want to be a leader who simply sits behind a desk and gives instructions without understanding what is happening on the ground. I prefer to be directly involved, conducting thorough checks to ensure reports are accurate and not merely prepared to satisfy superiors, he said.
In addition to his medical expertise, he also has a background in law, which supports him in making more balanced and well-considered decisions. He believes that integrating medical knowledge with legal understanding is essential to bridge the gap between standard operating procedures and legal considerations, thereby providing protection for both healthcare professionals and patients.
Building a legacy through regenerative innovation
In response to rapid advancements in healthcare technology and digitalization, he is committed to developing a long-term legacy in the field of orthobiology. He is currently focusing on research in regenerative therapies, including stem cells and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), to enhance patient recovery outcomes following orthopedic procedures.
淢y goal is for the next generation of doctors and staff to reach at least the same level of competence as mine, or even surpass it. We are developing technologies that not only focus on surgical intervention but also incorporate biological enhancements to accelerate healing, he concluded.
His role as President Director of Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopedic Hospital represents not only a personal achievement but also reflects UNAIR檚 continued commitment to contributing to national development, particularly in the healthcare sector.
