UNAIR NEWS– As an expert in business and human rights law, Iman Prihandono, Ph.D., is often invited to become a speaker.This time he was invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Directorate of Multilateral Cooperation to be a speaker in the national coordination meeting (Rakornas) on the development of business and human rights issues in Indonesia on Thursday, November 2, in Jakarta.
In his presentation, Iman presented a general view of the national business and human rights guiding principles draft initiated by the Foreign Ministry that should be appreciated for several reasons.
“First, since 2011 UNGP was introduced, the Ministry became an activepioneerwhich plays an active role in business and human rights issues in Indonesia.Secondly, this guiding principles were drafted in a timely manner so that it can act as a companion of the national business and human rights action plan developed by Komnas HAM and civil society.These guiding principles draft can work together and complete each other with RAN-Business and Human Rights.However, it does not mean the draft was far from some limitations, “said Iman.
As the event entitled “The Development of the National Agenda on Business and Human Rights Issues”, he addressed several specific issues such as related special inputs for the principles that might be an improvement to the draft of the guiding drafts.Some guiding principles have a very wide scope so it is difficult to elaborate into the next column.
Moving on to the next column, the legal product in Indonesia, it seems that the guidlines will have difficulty in incorporating all the regulations in Indonesia related to business and human rights.
Also, there will be insufficient space to include all of the regulations and relevant articles.Consequently, the guidelines rely greatly on the law as the main reference and contains very little secondary regulations.
“The proposal for this situation is that the list of legal products in Indonesia should not be included in the column.However, annex is made to contain regulations in accordance with their respective sectors.Thus, the legal product column contains only ‘keywords’ which make it easier for the users of this guidelines to refer to the relevant regulations in the Annex, “said the Head of the International Law Department of 51动漫.
In the closing, Iman presented several other suggestions that could be considered for the improvement of the guidelines draft ahead.(*)
