UNAIR听NEWS It takes sacrifice to realize one檚 dream. The jargon is a perfect fit for Fiory Dioptis Putriwijaya, drg., M.Kes., in finishing her study at Dental Health Master Program, Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) 51动漫. Two years of hard work has been rewarding at last. Fiory was appointed to be best master graduate with GPA 3.89.
Her success resulted from a process. During her study, the Kediri-born student had to go to and back from Surabaya-Kediri every weekend. On late Friday afternoon she came home to Kediri, because on Saturday she had to teach at FKG Institut Ilmu Kesehatan Bhakti Wiyata Kediri. On early Monday morning she had to go to Surabaya that was her routine until she graduated.
Her hard work didn檛 stop there. When she was in semester I, she was pregnant her first child. Due to her high mobility, she had to bed-rest.听A few months after delivering, she was again pregnant her second child, during semester III. However this time she spent more time at home because she had finished her study. Fiory was so thankful that she could go through it all right. For her, her success couldn檛 be separated from her family檚 support, her friends, and her understanding lecturers.
淚 found it hard to leave my infant kid at home when I have to do research and thesis consultation in Surabaya, said the woman who likes traveling, while explaining that she researched a dentist檚 body position impact when filling a tooth.
The result was, a dentist spent a few minutes to hours sitting when checking or fixing a patient檚 tooth. As futile as it may look, a dentist檚 sitting position will affect bone or joints health. She found out that many dentists complained of suffering from low back pain听after handling a patient. More specifically, the complaint falls into the category of musculoskeletal听disorder (MSD).
MSD is a disorder in muscle, tendon, joint, backbone, periphery nerves, and vascular system which may happens suddenly and acute or slowly and chronic. One of the cause is improper position when working and job factor such as posture distortion, too long static posture, and repetitive movement. Seventy eight percent of dentists complained they suffer from pains in their right shoulders, 68% pains in their backs, and 63% pains in their upper necks.
Fiory suggested that a dentist mustn檛 belittle his or her sitting position. Understanding the correct and comfortable way of sitting when handling a patient is a preventive step towards avoiding MSD risks. 滱part from working ergonomically, don檛 forget to exercise and work proportionally, limit work hour and limit patients so that our body has time to rest, she said.
