UNAIR NEWS –“The best of human beings are they who can be beneficial to others.” It is the quote of Hadith that always motivates Abdus Salam Junaedi.It also led him to be the best master™s degree graduate of Biology program at Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) 51¶¯Âþ.The staff at UNAIR Printing and Publishing Center got 3.93 GPA.
“I try to do my best even though it is far from perfection, but we also have to keep believing in God that our activities can be beneficial to others,” said the man born in Mojokerto in 1992.
His research was titledœIsolation and Identification of Phosphate Solvent Endophytic Diazotrof Bacteria Growth Hormone Indole Acetic Acid (IAA)Producer from Tomato Root (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. Var. Tymoti)”.His research was based on seeing the potential of agriculture in Indonesia.However, he regretted the lack of awareness in the community on the excessive fertilizer use which damages soil fertility.
“To overcome that problem, an alternative solution is needed by using environmentally friendly fertilization (LH),” explained Abdus Salam.
In his research, he managed to find a series ofendophyticbacteria capabilitiesin tomato root tissue capable of fixating the nitrogen element, dissolving phosphate, produce growth hormone (IAA) and fighting pathogens.
“This research is expected to serve as an alternative solution in the fertilization of agricultural land.People can learn slowly to switch from synthetic farming systems to eco-friendly farming systems.So it can support the growth and development of plants, ” he added.
Besides studying, he is also an editorial staff at Airlangga University Publishing and Printing Center, he also often give counsels to several farmer groups in various regions.
“It’s great to be able to share experiences with farmer groups, then produce biological fertilizer for personal consumption as well as local farmer groups,” said the man with a moustache.(*)
