UNAIR NEWS听– On December 29, 1959, in a scientific speech organized by the American Physical Society at Caltech (California Institute of Technology), Richard Feynman, for the first time introduced the concept of nanotechnology through his oration entitled “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom”.
Until now, the development of听nanotechnology听补苍诲听nanoscience听showed a rapid development.听There are now a lot of nano products in various areas of life such as听harddrives in the field of information technology.
As other countries in the world, Indonesia through LIPI and universities also developed the technology.听One of them is Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) 51动漫 in cooperation with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) through International Symposium on Nanoscience & Nanotechnology in Life Science 2017. The fourth symposium was followed by 67 presenters and 50 participants per day.
“This symposium is the fourth time.听Three of them were held internally in ITB. But this fourth, FST UNAIR was trusted to be implemented in Surabaya, “said UNAIR Physics lecturer and Head of the Committee Febdian Rusydi, ST, MSC, Ph.D to听UNAIR News.
Meanwhile, responding to the event, Dean of FST UNAIR Prof. Drs. Win Darmanto, M.Si., Ph.D revealed that the symposium is one of the breakthroughs FST made in supporting academic activities, especially in听nanotechnology听补苍诲听nanoscience.听As such activity is still rarely held in UNAIR, even in Indonesia.
“This cooperation will also be widen, besides with Barkley University, there are MARA Malaysia University and UTPM, Malaysia.听The plan, the Nobel Prize winner with Prof.听Kayle will come to UNAIR in April.听Hopefully it can pioneer the spirit of science in UNAIR, ” he added.
In the symposium from Tuesday to Wednesday, November 28-29 at Hotel Santika Surabaya, there were four speakers, Prof. Kyle E. Cordova, of University of California Berkeley;听Heni Rachmawati Ph.D., Head of the nanotechnology division at听ITB’s听nanotechnology听and听nanoscience听research center;听Prof.听Tommy Julianto Bustami Effendi, engineer, materials, science, and chemical compound who obtained his master degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia;听as well as Mochammad Zakki Fahmi, Ph.D., a physical chemist, geopolymer, and nanochemist who received his Ph.D. from National Science and Technology University of Taiwan, 2014.
“Interestingly, the speaker (Prof. Kyle, ed) is the assistant of Prof. Omar Yaghi of Berkeley University, California.听Prof. Omaryagi is a world-class chemist.听His level of research is nobel class.听So, through this symposium, the number of scientific publications of UNAIR can increase, “said Febdian.听“It is time for technology development, especially research, in Indonesia, should be directed to nano level.听Both in agriculture and health, “he added.听(*)
