UNAIR NEWS The effect of floods has varied, from dengue hemorrhagic fever, diarrhea, skin irritation, to leptospirosis. Leptospirosis disease is caused by leptospira bacterium spread through urine or animal檚 blood infected by the bacterium. One of the animals easily infected by the bacterium is rat.
To deal with the problem, as part of academic society who cares for public life, Nursing Master program of Faculty of Nursing (FKp) UNAIR held a community serviceat Dalpenang ward, Sampang Sub-district, Sampang Regency, Madura on Saturday (10/12).
The community service, held at the Village Auditorium was themed 淜now and Prevent Leptospirosis. In his speech, Chairman of Community ServiceM. Saleh S.Kp. Ners, explained that the program was caused by floods that often hit Sampang. In addition, the increasing disease cases post floods, like leptospirosis needed an urgent handling, one of which was by giving introduction about the disease and how to handle it.
淎s part of academic community we are responsible for handling the problem. We have the obligation to create a healthy community, explain the student who originates from Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur.
In front of health cadres, youth association, and various public elements, H. Wakil, S.E, representing Lurah Dalpenang said that his people suffered from various diseases after the floods. In the past they usually only had diarrhea, but now some of his people also suffered from leptospirosis.
淪ampang Subdistrict always gets hit. It even hits 60 villages sometimes. In 2016 alone, especially at Dalpenang village here, there has been 19 floods. Thus this community serviceis very important, because with this people know more about the disease and they know what to do in case they suffer from the disease, he explained.
Met at the volunteer work location, the Vice Dean I FKp UNAIR Dr. Kusnanto, S.Kp., M.Kes explained that the community servicedone by the students was part of the Tri Dharma of higher education implementation. Besides, for Kusnanto, community servicebecame the form of knowledge application learned in class. He also added that the community serviceat Dalpenang ward was part of project based learningfrom the lessons the students got at campus.
淪o, what has been learned at campus can be applied in real life, he asserted.
Having been through many volunteer works in various places, Kusnanto didn檛 want the own expensed community serviceto be carried out haphazardly. Kusnanto kept trying to give breakthroughs to his students so that people could really feel the benefit of the work. It was proven by how the topic was divided in parallel at each small guardhouse with different topic.
淚 don檛 want it to be a usual informative gathering, because the after effect is unsatisfactory. That檚 why we make it parallel in each guardhouse with different topic. This way every individual gets involved and the villagers are very enthusiastic and can absorb the information deeper,漢e explained.(*)
