Indonesia Needs to Strengthen Economic Diplomacy

UNAIR NEWS –Indonesia needs to strengthen its economic diplomacy in the forum of 20 countries with the strongest economy, G-20.So far Indonesia is considered to have a good initiative but not followed with economic diplomacy position reinforcement.

The statement was made by the lecturer of Department of International Relations Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 51动漫, Joko Susanto, M.Sc., Friday, August 25.

“We have good initiatives but at the same time we still do not have clear position,” said Joko in a workshop titled ” Regional Development Optimization through Indonesian Economic Diplomacy in G-20 Forum”.

Airlangga Pribadi Kusman, Ph.D., in the same forum, said there are some phenomena in Indonesia that encourage intellectuals to intervene policy against the government.Citing a World Bank report on the problem of inequality in Indonesia, that half of the Indonesian population檚 wealth is equal to one percent of the community.

However, the lecturer of the Political Science Department of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences presented a number of academic issues facing intellectuals.

“The production of scientific work of Indonesian researchers is still lagging behind the ASEAN countries.The international publication by Indonesian researchers is ranked 61st under Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, “said the doctor graduated from Murdoch University, Australia.

In addition to academics, the symposium was also attended by the government.Head of the People’s Welfare and Apparatus Office of City Planning and Development of Surabaya, Wawan Windarto, stated that the development of public spaces is an effort made by Surabaya to align itself with G-20 member countries.

“Surabaya City Government always makes open spaces for the public, for example by making active parks as a place for people to interact and socialize,” said Windarto.

Director of Development, Economy and Environment, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muhsin Syihab appreciated the symposium organized by his agency and UNAIR.

According to Syihab, the ideas presented in this symposium gave constructive input to Kemenlu RI.

“Analysis of academic groups on the strengths and shortcomings of the G-20 forum will serve as a reference for utilizing the significant role of Indonesia.Hopefully, our presence can stimulate and inspire FISIP UNAIR students to read and conduct research related to G-20 and its relevance to development in Indonesia, “said Syihab to the academic community attended in Soetandyo Hall, FISIP UNAIR.
