Indonesian Universities Alumni to Stage Theatrical Comedy

UNAIR NEWS In the end of November, alumni of universities affiliated in Indonesian University Alumni Association (HIMPUNI) is going to perform a theatrical comedy. The performance involving 80 alumni will be held in Surabaya Cultural House, next Friday, November 25.

The performance titled Menyatukan Kembali Nusantara is close to 62nd Dies Natalis of 51 and 56th of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember.

Some important figures are involved, such as the Governor of East Java, Soekarwo, Jember Regent Faidah, UNAIR Rector Moh Nasih, UNAIR Rector ITS Jony Hermana, Mayor of Central Jakarta Mangara Pardede, President Director of BTN Maryono, Head of Carbon Management Association Muslich Ramelan, Senior Advocate Sirra Prayuna, and other HIMPUNI members.

For the success of the performance, the alumni of universities held a practice in Siti Parwati Hall, Faculty of Humanities, UNAIR, on Saturday, November 12. The alumni coming were from various universities like UNAIR, ITS and Universitas Brawijaya.

The practice just now was for the beginning of the performance. I play a role of King Worawari with antagonistic character, said Pribadi Arkham as alumnus of UNAIR, after the practice.

The performance is directed by Aries Mukadi, an artist of Wayang Orang Bharata. The story was taken from a Majapahit story in 1400 which tells a story on protecting the sovereignty of this Archipelago from various challenges which cause conflicts. There were provocation of foreign countries, economic pressure, political conflict, disturbances from robbers and rebels, the ruined cultures and diminishing unity among the local leaders.

The story teaches us unity with appreciation to local figures existence, said Aries.

It also tells about Naraya Airlangga struggle in 1000 AD in unifying Dwipantara which was divided into Sriwijaya in the west and Medang Mataram in the east. As he was successful in unifying both territories, Naraya Airlangga was crowned as the King of Kahuripan as Sri Maharaja Rakae Halu Lokeswara Dharmawangsa Airlangga Ananthawikrama Tunggadewa. The character will be played by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., Mt., Ak., CMA.

Not only a theatrical comedy, HIMPUNI which consists of 23 alumni organizations often holds activities such as social services, sports events, group discussion on energy, food industry, laws and education.

Unifying all Indonesian alumni is not only with knowledge but also through this performance, added Totty Moekardiono, alumnus of ITS. (*)
