Referring to Rector檚 instruction which obliges postgraduate students to publish their works in international journals, Linguistics Master Student Association FIB UNAIR (Hima Lingua) held 2017 Scientific Paper Writing Workshop for International Journals. It was held on Thursday, October 26.
淚t is our first event, externally, said the Head of Student Association, Robby Andre., S.Hum.
Being held in Siti Parwati Room FIB UNAIR, the workshop was attended 120 participants. They are not only from UNAIR, some of them were from different universities such as Institut Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Surabaya and some other universities.
淔rom UNAIR, there are about 20 students. They are from class 2017. From other universities, there are a hundred students, said the Head of the Committee Fallianda, S.S. 淭here are also some representatives from Madurese institutions and students, he added.
Denny A. Kwary, Ph.D was the speaker in the workshop. According Robby, Denny is an academic with a lot of experiences related journal publications especially on international scale.
淗e is also areviewerin some international journals such as SpringerLink,听Oxford, andCambridge, he added.
Denny explained some technical aspects and challenges faced by students. The paper quality should be able to be measured. It means that the way and ethical values are different, so some adjustments should be made.
淭he content should be the focus, whether it meets the criteria or not, said Denny. 淲e should understand that our paper will have great impact or not. It should be the main thing considered, he added.
In the end, Fallianda hoped that the workshop can be developed. It should be done again in the following years by the next Hima Lingua, including the workshops related to academicians.
Regarding the workshop, the Head of Linguistics Master Program, Dra. Ni Wayan Sartini, S.S, M.Hum. really appreciated and supported the workshop as the master students are obliged to make publication in Scopus Proceedings.
淎s informed in the Program Heads (KPS) Meeting last night, most master programs apply this policy, she added.
She hoped that this kind of events can improve the scientific publications among students including their interests in writing.
