UNAIR NEWS There are two substances in making medicine, namely synthetic and natural ingredients. The science about natural medicine is called Pharmacognosy. Prof. Dr. Sukardiman, Apt., MS, is a Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR in Pharmacognosy. Out of three natural ingredients learned in Pharmacognosy, (Herbal, Animal, and Mineral), Sukardiman focuses on herbal medicine.
As a researcher, the Chairman of Academic Product Development and Intellectual Assets Right Association (LPPA-HKI) UNAIR has produced some research products. Some of them are: 淐omposition of Samiloto (andrographis paniculata) Extract and turmeric which has been tested as supplement for breast cancer on a patient and 淗erbal Medicine Development: Kempferia galanga檚 Fraction which is used for gastric cancer or cancer of the colon.
Some of his published national or international works are 淚mmunohistochemical Study of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxband Morindacitrifolia L Ethanolic Extract Granules Combination in High fat Diet Induced HyperlipidemicRats in 2014, and 淭he Role of Ethyl Acetate Fraction of Andrographis paniculata and Doxorubicine Combination To Ward The Increase Apotosis and Decrease of VEGF Protein Expression of Mice Fibrosarcoma Cells in 2015.
Apart from scientific papers, he also joined international conferences, some of which are 淭he International Seminar on Chemopreventive for Health Promotion and Beauty in Denpasar in 2010, and 淪eminar international Conference and Exhibition on Pharmaceutical Nutraceutical and Cosmetic Technology : Formulation and Applications in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2010.
Sukardiman also received various honors for his service in research. Some of them are 淵oung Investigator Award by Asian Microcirculation Surgeon Association in 1999. Moreover, he was chosen as Best Presenter of Research Result on Basic Research (IPD) by DIKTI in 2004.
Apart from holding the position of Chairman of and lecturer, the Youngest Professor at Pharmacy in 2008 has also been a member of DIKTI research reviewer since 2010 and Binfarkes Research of Indonesia Ministry of Health since 2013. He is also a member of Indonesia Pharmacist Association (IAI) since 2010 and member of Natural Medicine of Indonesian Pharmacy Collegium (KIFI) in 2016. At the breaks of his busy schedule, he wrote a book entitled 淧harmacognocy Volume I in 2014.
淢edicine is either poison or honey. When you overdose on it, it turns into poison. Pharmacology is the best discipline on medicine, how to treat it properly. Its scope includes research development to produce the most advanced medicine, he said.
Meanwhile, pharmacy doesn檛 focus only on medicine. Food and drinks are also part of their world. The responsibilities of pharmacy is huge because it involves life. (*)
