UNAIR NEWS – Commemorating the World Kidney Day on Thursday the second week of March, 51动漫 Hospital (RS UNAIR) inaugurates a new unit, Hemodialysis.It is located at 1 RSU UNAIR and opened to meet the community’s need for hemodialysis services due to kidney failure.
“Kidney day is commemorated to remind us that in this world there are still dangerous diseases and causes a huge cost, namely chronic kidney disease,” said Chairman of Pernefri Jatim dr.Pranawa, SpPD-KGH after inaugurating the Hemodialysis unit.
Doctor Pranawa said that chronic kidney disease cannot undergo conservative treatment with drugs alone.The patients require renal replacement therapy.There are three treatments that can be done, hemodialysis,continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPD), and more complete treatment, a kidney transplant.
Those three can be done in Indonesia, including Surabaya.Chronic renal patients who do not perform kidney transplants should undergo hemodialysis two to three times a week, about 10-12 times a month which cost a million rupiah each.This amount of cost is indeed not small.
According to international data, among 1 million inhabitants there are a thousand patients who require hemodialysis treatment.In 2016, Indonesia spent 450 billion for hemodialysis.
“With the inauguration of this new installation, we hope the hemodialysis willbe reduced,” said Pranawa doctor.
Prevention of Kidney Disease
Kidney disease can happen to anyone, parents, children, men, and women.Chronic kidney disease, continued Pranawa, caused by several factors, 52 percent is caused by diabetes, and 32 percent is due to hypertension.In pregnant women, urinary tract infections, and malignancy of the uterus are also at risk for kidney disease.
In fact, if treated perfectly, 80 percent of hemodialysis can actually be prevented when hypertension and diabetes are treated.If calculated, prevention can save 200 billion allocated for hemodialysis.
Meanwhile, Director of RS UNAIR Prof.Dr.Nasronudin, dr., Sp.PD-KPTI said that the opening of Hemodialysis unit in RS UNAIR is aimed to provide services to the public.From time to time, he added, the number of patients who need hemodialysis increase.The opening of this unit of Hemodialysis is a successful form of government and RS UNAIR to maintain the quality and life expectancy of people affected by chronic kidney disease.
“We want to be present in the community. Originally UNAIR Hospital has not had this facility.Thus, RS UNAIR can get closer and provide good service for the community, “he explained.

Suwito, one of the current hemodialysis patients has been admitted to UNAIR Hospital.Previously, the man who was once a soccer player and swimming coach was doing hemodialysis treatment at the largest referral hospital in East Java, Dr.Soetomo, Surabaya.
